The dating world is a tough place to be. It seems that you’re constantly lengthening your list of criteria and not matching up to someone else’s. With all of the difficult expectations and lack of transparency in the current dating world, what are the key elements you look for in a partner?

For starters, it might be a good idea for you to seek out partners who love dogs as much as you do. It seems that someone who loves dogs has good attributes that could make them a wonderful partner, even more so than people who do not own dogs. Let’s dig into the reasons that it’s great to date a dog owner.

The 9 Reasons to Date a Dog Owner

While the jury might be out on whether being a dog lover makes you a better partner, one thing is true: It certainly makes you more compatible. Here are some things that make dog lovers better for you than others.

1. They Have a Mutual Love of Dogs

There is nothing that can be a greater relationship killer than a very imbalanced take on pets and relationships. You might meet someone who you think is your knight in shining armor, but they don’t own or even like dogs. This can be a real dealbreaker for some people, as there is very rarely a compromise. Some people are eminently against having pets and don’t like animals in their living space.

Other people wouldn’t know what to do in a home that didn’t have some other life form in it. If you date a fellow dog lover, you will always have that mutual understanding that each of you loves your pet, and neither one of you will want to take that from the other person.

There will be no need for negotiation or compromise; you both have the exact same affection toward the species, so both people’s dogs are safe.

2. There Is No Allergy Confusion

When you’re first getting to know someone, it can be complicated to remember a list of questions to ask. You’re likely coming and meeting from different points when you’re in the beginning stages.

As the relationship progresses, you have validated that you do, indeed, like this person. But it can be such a romance extinguisher when the subject of allergies is brought up and you find out that they are allergic to dogs.

If the person whom you have started dating is deathly or even moderately allergic to canines, having dogs living in your home might be a real complication. You will be faced with whether the relationship can continue from that point.

Obviously, some compromise is always necessary, and it will be a hit or miss on whether it works. But if you are dating a fellow dog owner, you already know that allergies are not an issue.

3. There’s Less Jealousy

You don’t have to worry about a dog person being jealous. They are well aware that they have to equally divide their time among those they love, especially if they own more than one canine. They will realize that you also have commitments elsewhere. So, you can count on your partner to do the same in return.

If their dog requires their attention, you are willing to be understanding. If your dog requires the same thing, they will reciprocate. It’s a good way to balance the equation, ensuring that all involved feel cared for and needed.

4. Dog People Tend to Be Healthier

If there’s one thing you can guarantee when you have a dog, it’s that you have to ensure that they get their exercise. If you get creative, you can make minimal effort while your dog gets to run around, such as visiting dog parks or having a large fenced-in backyard.

However, on average, most people who own dogs are a little more active than those who don’t. Dogs motivate you to get outside and walk around, even at times when you don’t want to. This obligation can serve you well and can benefit your health, something you can share with a fellow dog owner.

5. Dog People Are More Social

There is an age-old stereotype that claims that dogs are social while cats keep more to themselves. The same can be said for dog and cat owners. Cat owners tend to be a bit more introverted, needing time away from the world to recharge their batteries.

Dog owners tend to be more outgoing and social, and dogs are a way to bridge the gap, driving that social need. You often see dog people gathering at dog parks, social events, pet shops, grooming facilities, and all sorts of other places.

Dogs are a great way to spark a conversation, meaning that you aren’t afraid of the attention. So, if you both have dogs, chances are that you will enjoy many of the same social things.

6. Dog People Tend to Understand Commitment

Any time you get a dog, you are committing to living at least 10 years with this animal, longer if you’re lucky. If you meet a dog person, chances are that they also understand the nature of commitment and will be able to better devote themselves to you.

It’s a good sign if getting married is something on your agenda or at least having a long-term partnership.

7. Dog People Are Usually Affectionate

Dogs require a lot of physical affection most of the time. Therefore, their owners likely enjoy this type of love language and reciprocate it. Dog owners tend to be more affectionate than non-dog-having owners.

Dog owners might also show emotion with their hands more, including touching and hugging. So, if you are the kind of person who loves to cuddle or hold hands while walking through the park, this kind of partner might be just for you.

8. Dog Owners Have to Be Responsible

Taking care of a dog is definitely not for the weak of heart. They absolutely require routine daily care and depend on you for literally everything. If you are dating a dog owner, at least they know what it’s like to be responsible and take care of something other than themselves.

Not only does this signal great partner potential, but it also means they might be a good parent in the event that you choose to grow a family in the future. It also might show you that you can count on them to help you out with responsibilities around the house.

Plus, the two of you can enjoy taking care of your dogs together!

9. Dog People Love Adventure

If you meet a person who loves dogs, they might also love adventures. If you’re the kind of person who likes to get out of your own four walls, you might love dating somebody who has the same energy level and thirst for adventure as you.

The two of you can take your dogs on hikes together or even just on a date to the dog park. The possibilities for dog-friendly outings are endless when you find someone who has a mutual love for dogs.

In Conclusion

Now you know just why dog lovers are amazing! So, if somebody has shown interest in you, it might be time to throw them a bone. After all, wouldn’t you want to be with a dog owner over someone who really can’t stand them? You certainly don’t want the love of dogs to be the reason you’re pulled apart from your love interest!
