BSO Officials Rescue 8 Maltreated Dogs During Drug Raid
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies said they found eight maltreated dogs Tuesday evening at the house of an alleged drug dealer.
Just after 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 20, a team of BSO deputies armed with a search warrant surrounded the home of felon Enaildo Baptiste at 1510 NW Third Way in Pompano Beach.
Police said that once they entered Baptiste’s home, deputies found cocaine, marijuana, Ecstasy, two handguns and cash.
Baptiste, 24, had already racked up a lengthy arrest record on drug charges, aggravated assault, battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, and violation of parole, officials said before Tuesday’s arrest.
Outside, police found four puppies — three of which were crammed into a single cage — and four adult pit bulls.
Police said that one of the adult dogs looked malnourished and another was badly scarred from fighting and had a horribly infected wound it had suffered in a fight.
BSO officials booked Baptiste into the Main Jail on a litany of drug and animal cruelty charges that will likely send him to prison for a long time, police said.
The dogs were taken to the Coral Springs Animal Hospital to get some care and investigators said that as soon as the dogs get a clean bill of health, they hope to be able to put them up for adoption.
