  • The 10 Best Large Dog Collars:

    1. Chai’s Choice Comfort Cushion Dog Collar – Best Overall

Chai’s Choice Comfort Cushion Dog Collar

    Different Sizes Available: Yes
    Collar Type: Standard
    Closure Type: Quick Release

Out of all the collars we reviewed for this article, we preferred the Chai’s Choice Comfort Cushion Dog Collar. It features a reflective material, which is a vital component for safety purposes. If your dog happens to get out at night, this reflective collar could save their life.

While you don’t have to wear this collar, your dog does. Therefore, this collar comes with extra padding for plenty of extra comfort. This extra padding keeps the collar soft against your dog’s neck and reduces rubbing, which can be painful and uncomfortable.

It also comes with a stainless-steel ring for your dog’s leash and identification. The buckle is easy to snap on and off. Plus, this collar also comes in many different colors and sizes.

We recommend taking a look at the sizing chart before making your purchase to ensure that you’re choosing the right size for your pooch.

Due to the added safety and comfort features, this is easily the best large dog collar overall.

    Pros
    • Stainless-steel ring
    • Reflective material
    • Comes with extra padding
    • Many sizes available
    Cons
    • Odd shape

    2. Frisco Monochromatic Dog Collar – Best Budget

    Frisco Monochromatic Dog Collar

    Different Sizes Available: Yes
    Collar Type: Standard
    Closure Type: Buckle

Compared to other dog collars on the market, the Frisco Monochromatic Dog Collar is one of the cheapest options. However, it is also quite durable and comes with all the features most people need. Therefore, we highly recommend it as a budget option for those with big dogs.

This collar features neoprene and EVA padding, which helps reduce rubbing and makes the collar far more comfortable. It is crafted with poly-webbing and soft jersey fabric. These two materials were chosen because they do not commonly rip, making them the perfect option for a dog collar, especially for larger and stronger dogs.

As you’d expect, this collar features a metal D-ring that is perfect for leash attachments. The buckle is strong and made from plastic, making it very easy to put the leash on while also making it hard for your dog to rip it off.

The aesthetics of this collar are very minimalist. It comes in a single solid color for a monochromatic look. You aren’t going to be turning any heads with this collar, but it is absolutely the best option for those looking for practicality. Of all the collars we reviewed, it is by far the best large dog collar for the money.

    Pros
    • Neoprene and EVA padding
    • Minimalistic
    • D-ring for leashes
    • Strong, plastic buckle
    Cons
    • Minimalist aesthetics

    3. GoTags Nylon Personalized Dog Collar – Premium Option

    GoTags Nylon Personalized Dog Collar

    Different Sizes Available: Yes
    Collar Type: Standard
    Closure Type: Quick Release

The biggest draw of the GoTags Nylon Personalized Dog Collar is that it is completely customizable. Instead of needing to purchase a separate ID tag, you can simply have the information printed directly onto the collar. As you might imagine, this makes it much easier for others to identify your canine if it gets lost.

You can choose from five different collar colors and 14 different thread colors for customization, and you can add up to 25 characters directly onto the collar. These characters are pretty large, which makes it easy for others to read them. You can add your phone number and dog’s name, for instance.

As you probably guessed, this collar is completely customizable. It includes an adjustable side buckle as well, which makes it extremely easy to put on your pup. This collar is made out of nylon, which is pretty average—most collars are made of this material.

The main reason this collar is expensive is because of the customization – not necessarily because of the quality of the collar.

    Pros
    • Customizable
    • Lots of different collars to choose from
    • Adjustable side buckle
    • Easy to put on
    Cons
    • Expensive

    4. Frisco Patterned Nylon Dog Collar

    Frisco Patterned Nylon Dog Collar

    Different Sizes Available: Yes
    Collar Type: Standard
    Closure Type: Buckle

For those looking for something a bit more aesthetically pleasing, you may want to consider the Frisco Patterned Nylon Dog Collar. This collar is patterned to set it apart from the usual one-color collars on the market. It is crafted using nylon as the base and grosgrain ribbon to make the pattern and is lab-tested for durability and longevity.

This collar also comes with a D-ring that is designed to attach to a leash easily and crafted with nickel-coated hardware, which makes it quite durable. There is a separate D-ring for ID tags and other pieces of identification.

The buckle is plastic but durable. It is easy to use, allowing you to take the collar on and off your dog quickly. All collars are adjustable, though we recommend using the sizing chart to ensure that you’re purchasing the correct size.

    Pros
    • Two D-rings
    • Durable buckle
    • Aesthetic designs
    Cons
    • Overlaying ribbon tends to fray

    5. Pawtitas Nylon Reflective Dog Collar

    Pawtitas Nylon Reflective Dog Collar

    Different Sizes Available: Yes
    Collar Type: Standard
    Closure Type: Buckle

As the name suggests, the Pawtitas Nylon Reflective Dog Collar is reflective. As we’ve previously discussed, this sort of dog collar is very vital for safety. If your dog is roaming around at night, this collar will make passing cars see them easier, which can prevent them from getting hit accidentally.

We also liked that this collar has a wide-fitting design, which makes it more comfortable to wear with a leash. The pressure from the leash will be more widely distributed, making it far more comfortable. The collar itself is made with a reinforced rip-stop fabric, which is much more durable than other options on the market.

Plus, there are many different sizes and colors for you to choose from. However, the colors online don’t seem to match up with the color of the collar, in reality, so be careful if you’re specific about your dog’s collar color.

We also found that the collar wasn’t as adjustable as other options, which can make it more difficult to get it to fit on your specific canine.

    Pros
    • Many different colors and sizes
    • Reflective
    • Wide-fitting
    Cons
    • Colors don’t always match
    • Not very adjustable

    6. Blueberry Pet Reflective Dog Collar

Blueberry Pet 3M Reflective Dog Collar

    Different Sizes Available: Yes
    Collar Type: Standard
    Closure Type: Buckle

The Blueberry Pet Reflective Dog Collar is a great option for those who want an aesthetically pleasing collar. It comes in a few different patterns, so you can choose the option that best fits your needs. It is also reflective, thanks to the strips that are woven into the webbing, making it much more visible for nighttime walks. Plus, the black and grey hardware is much more aesthetically pleasing than other options out there.

The collar is made not to stretch, so you do have to be a bit careful with sizing. It isn’t very forgiving if you accidentally purchase the wrong size. There are a few different sizes available, though – just not as many as other options.

This collar does include two D-rings, which helps it remain durable. Instead of just one ring taking all the force, the second ring helps distribute the force a bit more evenly.

    Pros
    • Black and grey hardware
    • Two D-rings
    • Made not to stretch
    Cons
    • Only three sizes available
    • Expensive

    7. Frisco Fashion Collar

    Frisco Fashion Collar

    Different Sizes Available: Yes
    Collar Type: Standard
    Closure Type: Buckle

As the name suggests, the Frisco Fashion Collar is designed specifically with fashion in mind. While it is also practical, it was designed primarily for aesthetic purposes. Therefore, if you’re looking for something unique and fashionable, this collar is a great choice. There is only one pattern available, though, so you aren’t given many options.

The collar is made with quality webbing to help it withstand everyday use. It features tropical flowers and gold hardware, which makes it much more aesthetically pleasing than other options out there. Like most collars, it comes with a D-ring to make attaching a leash easy and straightforward. The larger sizes also feature an extra D-ring for ID tags.

With that said, this leash is not nearly as durable as other options. It is not chew-proof, for instance. Therefore, if your dog tends to be rough on their belongings, you may want to choose something else.

    Pros
    • Two D-rings
    • Aesthetically pleasing
    • Gold hardware
    Cons
    • Only one pattern
    • Not as durable as other options

    8. Blazin’ Safety LED Nylon Dog Collar

Blazin’ Safety LED Nylon Dog Collar

    Different Sizes Available: Yes
    Collar Type: Rechargeable LED
    Closure Type: Buckle

While the Blazin’ Safety LED Nylon Dog Collar may look like a normal dog collar, it is far from it. To help your dog stay safe at night, this dog collar features rechargeable LEDs, which come in both green and blue. This vibrant collar allows you to spot your canine from up to 350 yards away. On a full charge, this collar can stay lit for up to eight hours.

You can choose between three different modes: on, strobe, and blink. The LEDs are protected by a soft nylon material that is also comfortable for your canine to wear.

Obviously, this is not meant to be a full-time collar. However, if you find that your dog tends to wander around at night, you may want to consider investing in this collar to make it easier to see them.

Plus, we also found this collar to be extremely adjustable, which makes sizing much more forgiving.

However, you are going to pay extra for this collar because of the extra electronics it comes with. With that said, if you’re looking for a way to keep your dog visible at night, you can’t really beat this option.

    Pros
    • Three different modes
    • Stays charged for up to 8 hours
    • Soft and comfortable
    Cons
    • Expensive
    • Not for everyday wear

    9. GoTags Adjustable Nameplate Personalized Dog Collar

GoTags Adjustable Nameplate Personalized Dog Collar

    Different Sizes Available: Yes
    Collar Type: Standard
    Closure Type: Snap

For those who love personalized options, you may want to look at the GoTags Adjustable Nameplate Personalized Dog Collar. This collar comes with an attached metal tag that is on the actual band of the collar itself – not on the D-ring. You can personalize this metal tag to include identification information for your canine, as opposed to purchasing a tag separately.

Because it is personalized, this collar is a bit more expensive than most. However, when compared to the cost of a collar and an ID tag, this collar is about average in price. You’ll spend a bit more upfront, but you won’t have to purchase a separate ID tag.

This collar is completely machine washable. It also features a D-ring for a leash and a side-release buckle, and for the most part, it is just your average collar.

With that said, the metal tag is a bit cheaply made, and there are several reports of it falling off. As you might imagine, it can be very unfortunate if the tag falls off after your pet gets lost.

    Pros
    • Personalized metal tag included
    • D-ring for leash
    • Machine washable
    Cons
    • Poor quality tag
    • Expensive

    10. Euro-Dog Quick Release Leather Dog Collar

Euro-Dog Quick Release Leather Dog Collar

    Different Sizes Available: Yes
    Collar Type: Standard
    Closure Type: Quick Release

The Euro-Dog Quick Release Leather Dog Collar is designed to be a bit more aesthetically pleasing than other options on the market. It is made with real, full-grain American leather and quality European steel. The quick-release buckle comes with stainless steel springs, making it easy to open and close. However, it is also extremely difficult for your dog to take off.

This collar is available in many different sizes. We recommend you have a look at the sizing chart carefully to ensure that you’re purchasing the correct size for your canine. There are also several colors to choose from, allowing you to choose the option you like best.

With that said, this collar is quite a bit more expensive than others, largely because of the materials it is made from. For this reason, we only recommend getting this collar if you are really set on the leather.

We also found the size adjuster on this collar to be a bit strange. However, once you figure it out, the collar is quite adjustable.

    Pros
    • Leather and steel design
    • Aesthetically pleasing
    Cons
    • Expensive
    • Adjustments are difficult to make

Buyer’s Guide: Selecting the Best Large Dog Collar

At first glance, choosing a dog collar may seem simple. However, it is anything but simple in many cases. Most people are surprised by the sheer number of options out there, which also means that there are many decisions you have to make before deciding on a collar for your canine.

Luckily, in this section, we’ll help you decide on the perfect collar for your canine. Whether you’re looking for an aesthetically pleasing collar or one that is purely practical, we’ll help you figure out which one to purchase in this section.

    Dog Collar Aesthetics

For some people, how a collar looks doesn’t matter at all. For others, it matters a lot. If you fall into the latter category, then you’ll need to consider how you want the collar to look, which may include things beyond patterns and collars. For instance, some people are very set on having a leather collar, while others are completely fine with a nylon one.

What you consider aesthetically pleasing depends completely on your tastes. We can’t tell you what collars you’ll like and which ones you won’t.

With that said, very fancy collars usually cost more, though they don’t add any practical benefit. For this reason, we highly recommend that you consider whether you really need a fancy collar, especially if you’re on a budget.

    Dog Collar Material

There are several materials that a collar could potentially be made of. Nylon is the most commonly used material as it’s cheap, widely available, and durable. Therefore, it is often considered the perfect material for dog collars. If you’re looking for something inexpensive and practical, then nylon probably is what you need to get.

However, other materials are commonly used in dog collars, too, like leather. There is often little reason to pick one of these other materials unless you just want to. Often, they are more expensive but don’t provide many practical benefits.

You’ll also need to consider the material of the buckle. Plastic is very common in budget collars, while others use steel. Steel is going to be one of the more expensive options, but it is also going to be more durable.

    Dog Collar Cost

Most people don’t want to spend tons of money on a dog collar. Luckily, most dog collars aren’t terribly expensive. In fact, most collars are very affordable, especially if you stick with nylon.

With that said, some collars are more expensive. Usually, personalization, higher-quality materials, and extra features cause the price to rise. However, collars are still fairly inexpensive, even for a leather option.

Of course, only you know your budget. We recommend being realistic about what you can get within your budget. You’ll likely not be able to find a leather collar at a very low price, for instance.

    Dog Collar Reflectiveness

Many collars are reflective for safety reasons. If your dog accidentally runs off in the middle of the night, having a reflective collar can be lifesaving. It makes it far easier for passing cars to see your pooch, which prevents them from getting hit. Of course, it also makes them easier to find if you utilize a flashlight.

Reflective collars are absolutely necessary for those who go on nighttime walks. You should not take your dog walking without some sort of reflective material on their body. For those who don’t walk at nighttime, this feature is more “just in case.” You never know when your dog will accidentally be wandering around at night, after all.

Not all collars are reflective, and some that claim to be reflective hardly count as reflective at all. Therefore, we highly recommend testing out any collar you purchase before you go walking around at night.

    Dog Collar Adjustability

Anyone who has tried to size their dog for a collar knows just how difficult it is to be accurate. Luckily, most collars are adjustable. Therefore, you don’t have to get the exact right size for your dog. As long as you’re close, you’ll be able to adjust the collar to compensate.

However, this isn’t true for all collars, and unless you’re certain of your dog’s neck width, we recommend looking for collars that are forgiving when it comes to sizing.

    Dogster divider_v3_NEW_MAY_24_

    Conclusion

There are many large dog collars available on the market. However, our favorite is the Chai’s Choice Comfort Cushion Dog Collar. As the name suggests, this collar is one of the more comfortable options you can pick for your canine. It features extra padding, as well as all the usual features you’d expect from a collar.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive collar, you may want to try the Frisco Monochromatic Dog Collar. This collar features a very basic design. However, it is also extremely inexpensive. If you’re just looking for something that works, this may be a solid option.

We hope that our reviews helped you find the best collar for your larger canine.
