Many dog breeds tend to chew on their belongings, especially if they are still puppies or spend a lot of time on their own. If you are looking to purchase a pet bed for your destructive dog, you are going to need one that’s chew-proof if you want it to last more than a few days. However, with so many brands available, all claiming to be indestructible, it can be challenging to know which one is best for your pet.
We’ve chosen seven different brands to review so you can see how they differ and what makes one better than another. We’ll tell you about the pros and cons we experienced while using them and whether or not they held up to our toughest chewers. The 7 Best Indestructible & Chew-Proof Dog Beds
1. Frisco Steel-Framed Elevated Dog Bed – Best Overall
The Frisco Steel-Framed Elevated Dog Bed is our pick as the best overall chew-proof dog bed. It sits above the ground, so your dog will sit comfortably on an air cushion instead of a hard floor or ground with rocks. The material is a durable polyester that fits tightly over a powder-coated metal frame. Since it is so tight, it doesn’t encourage chewing, and the frame won’t rust or bend while your pet is using it. It’s also available in multiple sizes from 35–51 inches long, so it should be suitable for any size dog.
The only downside that we experienced while using the Frisco was that the screws frequently needed to be tightened and would come loose after the dog used it a few times.
- Elevated
- Tight, breathable fabric
- Powder-coated steel frame
- Multiple sizes
- Screws come loose
2. Coolaroo Elevated Dog Bed – Best Value
The Coolaroo Elevated Dog Bed is our pick as the best indestructible and chew-proof dog bed for the money. It’s similar to our last design and features an elevated platform for your dog to lie on. It sit 7 inches above the ground and provides your pet with 9 square feet of space to get comfortable. The material is stretched tight over the bars, so your dog won’t chew on it, and it’s also mold and mildew-resistant. Fleas, ticks, and mites cannot hide or lay eggs, and you can clean the bed easily with a wet rag or hose. It’s also available in several colors, so it will match any interior design.
The downside to the Coolaroo Elevated Dog Bed is that it took a little while to assemble, and if you have a toy breed, this bed might be a little high off the ground.
- Elevated
- Multiple colors
- 9 sq ft of sleeping space
- Mold and mildew resistant
- Easy to clean
- Difficult to assemble
3. Kuranda Chewproof Dog Bed – Premium Choice
The Kuranda Chewproof Dog Bed is our premium choice indestructible and chew-proof dog bed. Like the others we’ve looked at already, this model features a raised design for a more comfortable sleep. It stands a little over 5 inches tall, which we found suitable for a wide range of dogs, and you can get it in multiple sizes from 25–50 inches long. It’s also available in several colors to suit your interior. The fabric is thick and durable even on the smallest beds, and it’s pulled tight over lightweight aluminum bars, so your dogs won’t chew it.
The Kuranda is a nice bed and is worth every penny. The only problems we experienced were that it was hard to assemble, and some of the holes didn’t seem to line up properly, and after our dogs got off it, you could see all the hair they left on it from across the room.
- Elevated
- Multiple sizes and colors
- Lightweight aluminum frame
- Thick vinyl fabric
- Hard to assemble
- Shows hair
4. PetFusion Memory Foam Dog Bed
The PetFusion Memory Foam Dog Bed is a soft and comfortable bed that is available in multiple sizes from 25–50 inches long. The cotton and polyester material feature an anti-tear design that we found to hold up very well. The cover comes off and is machine washable, so it’s easy to keep clean. It’s also water-resistant with raised sides to provide your pet with head and back support while they sleep. There is also no complicated assembly like the models we have looked at so far.
Most of our dogs enjoyed using the PetFusion, and it lasted quite a while in our home. The biggest cons were that it’s quite expensive, and while the fabric is tear-resistant, the seams are not, and if your dog really wants to, it can tear off the raised sides.
- Removable cover
- Cotton and polyester twill cover
- Water-resistant
- Anti-tear
- Raised sides
- Expensive
- Seams could rip
5. Carhartt Pillow Dog Bed w/Removable Cover
The Carhartt Pillow Dog Bed w/Removable Cover is a large bulky pillow that your pet will enjoy sleeping on. The thick polyfill is removable so you can machine wash the outer shell, and this fabric is a thick cotton duck canvas that we found to be quite attractive and durable. It’s a little heavy at more than 7 pounds, but we found that this discouraged our dogs from pulling it around and destroying it.
We appreciated the Carhartt Pillow’s simple design, but it’s not available in as many sizes as most of the other models on this list, and you can only get it in 35 or 41 inches long. It’s also another example of a durable material paired with a weak seam. While the weight did discourage chewing, once they did chew, our dogs broke it apart at the seam.
- Simple design
- Thick cushion
- Cotton duck canvas
- Machine washable
- Not as many sizes
- Weak seams
6. Dogbed4less Premium Memory Foam Dog Bed
The Dogbed4less Premium Memory Foam Dog Bed is another pillow-style bed that many pets will enjoy. It features a thick, orthopedic memory foam core that will form to your pet’s body for maximum comfort. Over this foam is a protective, waterproof liner that will prevent spills and other accidents from seeping into the memory foam. Over the waterproof barrier is a durable and heavyweight denim fabric that you can remove to machine wash.
Our dogs loved the Dogbed4less Premium, especially our older pet with arthritis. However, we quickly found out that the waterproof layer is insufficient to prevent accidents from getting into the foam, and it’s not completely chew-proof. Once our dogs got started, they quickly demolished the bed.
- Waterproof liner
- Machine washable
- Orthopedic memory foam
- Heavyweight cover
- Not completely chew- proof
- Not waterproof
7. K9 Ballistics Chew Proof Elevated Dog Bed
The K9 Ballistics Chew Proof Elevated Dog Bed is the last model on our list, but it still provides some great features that might interest you. It lifts your pet off the ground like our first few models and features a design compatible with most dog crates. It ships fully assembled so your dog can begin using it as soon as it arrives. You can get it in several sizes, from 29– 50 inches long.
We were glad we didn’t need to assemble this bed, but the material on it is quite thin, and our dogs started to wear a hole in the center after just a few months. It’s also one of the noisiest beds we’ve ever used, and it constantly squeaks as the dogs move around on it. Before the hole in the fabric got too large, one of the legs broke off.
- Elevated
- Multiple sizes
- No assembly
- It fits most standard crates
- Thin material
- Noisy
- Brittle
Buyer’s Guide: How to Choose the Best Indestructible Dog Bed
Let’s take a look at some of the things you should consider if you continue to shop around.
Style
Elevated Beds
Many people consider what type of fabric they want first, but we recommend starting with the style. Like the first few on our list, elevated beds raise the dog off the ground where they will get better rest. These beds provide your pet with more air circulation, which can help your pet stay cool and dry, and slow or eliminate mold growth. Since this style of bed has a single piece of fabric stretched tightly over a metal frame, there is nowhere for fleas and ticks to spread from animal to animal. It’s also easy to clean and transport, but the most important thing is that there are no soft, chewy parts that will cause our dog to chew up the bed. Unlike other styles, dogs don’t usually chew this type of bed. It’s also perfect for travel and the outdoors.
The downside to elevated beds is that they tend to wear out in the center and develop a hole. Some brands will allow you to replace the material, while others will not. The frame is another concern because some steel frames are prone to rusting, while aluminum might bend or break. We tried to point out any models on our list prone to rusting or breaking.
- Prevents chewing
- Easy to transport
- Better air circulation
- Can wear out
- Frame prone to rusting and wear
Shaped Beds
Shaped beds are extremely popular and often have a high-density foam center with one or more layers that make up the cover. These beds are the most attractive and are available in almost any shape and size. They often have raised sides to support your pet’s head and back while they sleep. Some beds will even provide a canopy so your pet can get some shade on sunny days.
The downside to these beds is that they are often quite expensive and not as easy to transport. Even though the cover is machine washable, it can be challenging to get it on and off, especially if your pet has had an accident on it. The foam can also lose its shape over time, becoming less comfortable, but the primary downside to this type of bed is that your dog will often chew on the raised sides, leading to the destruction of the bed.
- Attractive
- Comfortable
- Versatile
- Expensive
- Prone to chewing
Pillow Beds
Pillow beds are what they sound like, a bed that resembles a large throw pillow. These beds are usually the least expensive of the three and are available in the most colors and patterns. This style usually uses a polyfill that you can remove to machine wash the cover, and the material is often more durable than the shaped bed style, which often uses a softer but less durable plush fabric. Pillow beds are a favorite among large dog breeds, and there are no raised edges to encourage chewing.
The downside to the pillow bed is that it’s often very large and heavy, so it’s not easy to transport and you can’t use it outside. Though there are no raised edges, some dogs will still find a reason to chew it, and it won’t last long after that.
- Inexpensive
- Many colors, patterns, and sizes
- Less chewing
- Heavy and cumbersome
- Indoor use only
Size
Choosing the correct size bed can be a little more difficult than you might think because you will need to watch your pet to see how they normally sleep and measure them in that position. Some dogs like to sleep spread out, while others like to sleep curled up. If you want your dog to use the bed, you will need to keep their favorite sleeping position in mind and find a bed that accommodates it.
If your pet likes to sleep stretched out, you can measure them from the nose to the base of the tail and use that measurement to select your bed. If they like to sleep curled up, you will need to wait until your dog is asleep before measuring the widest dimension and choose a circular bed a few inches larger.
Material
All of the models on our list feature a chew-resistant material, and that is what you should look for if you continue to shop. Most beds that use this kind of material will specify that the bed is for heavy chewers. However, as we found while reviewing these beds, it isn’t only the material that matters. The seams are just as important, if not more so. Unfortunately, it’s not as easy to tell if a bed has durable seams, so we recommend inspecting them when possible to determine if they hold up to the abuses of your pet. We tried to point out any brands that had weak seams in our reviews.
Our Selection Process For Best Indestructible & Chew-Proof Dog Beds
To create this buyer’s guide, our writing team and editorial staff checked customer reviews, brand reputation, and veterinary approval ratings to present the dog beds we think should be highlighted for our readers. In some cases, we conducted hands-on testing along with seeing how much our dogs liked the dog beds. All these factors were considered when selecting these listed dog beds to help you make the best purchase for your furry friends.

Conclusion
We’ve found the elevated beds to be the best type for dogs that keep chewing up their beds. Our dogs don’t even consider chewing this style because there is nothing really to chew. It’s just a fabric stretched over some pipes. Our pick for the best overall is the perfect example of this style. The Frisco Steel-Framed Elevated Dog Bed features a tight breathable fabric that’s durable and available in several colors and sizes. The frame is extremely stable, and powder coated so it won’t rust or corrode if you use it outside. Another smart choice is our pick for the best value. The Coolaroo Elevated Dog Bed is similar to our top choice in many ways but comes with a cheaper price tag. We liked most of the beds on this list, and while they weren’t as durable as our top choice, they would likely work well for smaller moderate chewers.
We hope you have enjoyed reading over this list and found a few brands you would like to try out. If we have helped you find sleeping arrangements for your pet that outlasted the others, please share this guide to the best indestructible and chew-proof dog beds on Facebook and Twitter.
