    1. Bags on Board Dog Poop Bag – Best Overall

Bags On Board Dog Poop Bags

    Scented: No
    Dimensions: 9 x 14 inches
    Material: Plastic

Bags on Board Dog Poop Bags are double-sealed, and that makes for easy pickup. Nobody wants to feel like they are touching the poop, and these bags provide protection between your hand and the infamous pile. You get 315 bags for a reasonable price, and they come in blue or the fun multi-color. Storing these bags is a cinch with the dispensing box they come in, and they come with a fire hydrant bag holder.

If you have a large dog, these bags come in handy for picking up large piles because they are bigger than most (9 x 14 inches), and the antibacterial coating keeps smells away. These leaf-proof bags tie easily, and they are strong and durable.

They may tear when you open a new roll because of the tape used to hold the bags together, and sometimes they are hard to open, but for the price, quantity, and the free fire hydrant bag holder, these bags are the best overall dog poop bags for the money.

    Pros
    • 315 count bags
    • Double-sealed
    • Leak-proof
    • Free dispensable box
    • Free fire hydrant bag holder
    Cons
    • Tape may tear a hole when opening a new roll
    • May be hard to open at times

    2. Pogi’s Pet Supplies Poop Bags – Best Value

    Pogi's Pet Supplies Poop Bags

    Scented: Yes, unscented available
    Dimensions: 9 x 5 inches
    Material: Recycled materials/plastic

Pogi’s Pet Supplies Poop Bags are strong poop bags that are leak-proof. They are earth-friendly, and the sticker peels off easily from a new roll without tearing the bag. The packaging and cardboard cores are made from recycled materials, and they come in either a fresh scent or unscented.

If you have a kitty cat, you can use these bags to pick up cat feces from the litter box if you don’t want to scoop it.

These bags are oxo-biodegradable and contain an EPI additive, which helps them break down faster than most, usually around 18 months. Keep in mind that these bags are not made from plant-based materials, so they are not compostable. They may be hard to open at times, and they could be a little thicker, but they come in a 150-count or a 450-count for a reasonable price, making them the best overall dog poop bag for the money.

    Pros
    • Earth-friendly
    • Leak-proof
    • Made from recycled materials
    • Oxo-biodegradable
    • Reasonably priced
    Cons
    • Not compostable
    • Hard to open at times
    • Could be thicker

    3. Lucky Dog Ultimate Dog Poop Bags – Premium Choice

Lucky Dog Ultimate Dog Poop Bags

    Scented: No
    Dimensions: 9 x 13 inches
    Material: Recycled materials/plastic

If you’re looking for compostable bags, then Lucky Dog Ultimate Dog Poop Bags may be a good choice for you. These leak-proof bags are made from plants with a natural, corn-based material that makes them environmentally friendly. These bags are ASTM D6400 compliant for biodegradation and will break down in a compost facility (if your city has one).

The bags are 17 microns thick and won’t break or tear. They do not have a center core, and all packaging is made from recycled materials. The manufacturer donates part of its proceeds to environmental cleanup efforts upon purchase.

These bags are expensive and come in a 300-count or a 480-count of unscented bags. They have been known to tear at the bottom, and the thickness could be better.

    Pros
    • Compostable
    • ASTM D6400 compliant
    • Made from plants
    • Proceeds go toward cleaning up the environment
    Cons
    • Expensive
    • A bit thin
    • Bags may tear at the bottom

    4. Earth Rated Dog Poop Bags

Earth Rated Dog Poop Bags Refill Bags

    Scented: Yes, unscented available
    Dimensions: 9 x 13 inches
    Material: Recycled materials/plastic

Earth Rated Dog Poop Bags are strong and durable. You don’t feel like you’re picking up poop with your bare hands, and they are leaf-proof. They tear nicely from the perforated seams, and they don’t tear when you peel the sticker off a new roll. They fit all standard bag holders, and they are available in either a lavender scent or unscented. They are oxo-biodegradable, and they come in either a 120-count or 270-count.

They are not compostable, and they don’t do a spectacular job of holding odor in. They are durable, however, and easy to use. If you go with the lavender scent, keep in mind that the lavender smell can be quite strong.

    Pros
    • Strong and durable
    • Tears easily at perforated seams
    • Sticker tears easily from a new roll
    • Leak-proof
    • Oxo-biodegradable
    Cons
    • Not compostable
    • The lavender scent is strong
    • Doesn’t keep odor in well

    5. Gorilla Supply Dog Poop Bags

Gorilla Supply Dog Poop Waste Bags

    Scented: No
    Dimensions: 9 x 13 inches
    Material: Plastic

Gorilla Supply Dog Poop Bags are unscented and come in a 1,000-count for an affordable price. The bags come with a bag holder with a unique hook feature, allowing easy tearing when you need one. They are leak-proof, strong, and durable. They are ASTM D6400 certified with EPI technology that helps the bags break down faster. These bags are suitable for dogs of all sizes and will last you up to a year, give or take, according to how often you use them.

A drawback to these bags is some of the rolls may come defective; some bags may not be sealed at the end, rendering them useless. However, with the 1,000-count, you’ll receive more bags that are not defective at a great price.

    Pros
    • Comes in a pack of 1,000 bags
    • Affordable
    • ASTM D6400 certified
    • Leak-proof
    • Strong and durable
    Cons
    • Some bags may arrive unsealed at bottom

    6. Frisco Pantry Pack Dog Poop Bag

Frisco Pantry Pack Dog Poop Bag

    Scented: Yes, unscented available
    Dimensions: 9 x 13 inches
    Material: Plastic

Frisco Pantry Pack Dog Poop Bags come in a subtle cucumber melon scent, or you can choose unscented. They come in a 300-count at an affordable price, and the packaging and inner core are made from at least 50% recycled materials for an environmentally-friendly option. They are durable and leak-proof, and they’re easy to use and tie.

These bags may tear easily, and the thickness is a little thin. They also do a mediocre job of sealing in the feces scent. You also may get the occasional bag that tears at both ends, so be careful to check that it’s sealed before picking up poop.

    Pros
    • 300-count at an affordable price
    • Choose scented or unscented
    • Durable and leak-proof
    • Easy to tie
    Cons
    • Bags may come unsealed at the bottom
    • Does not contain feces smell that well

    7. PET N PET Compostable Dog Poop Bags

PET N PET Compostable Dog Poop Bags

    Scented: No
    Dimensions: 9 x 13 inches
    Material: Recycled materials/cornstarch

PET N PET Dog Poop Bags are compostable, made from cornstarch bio-based material, and free from plastic. They are easy to open and even have an arrow marking the opening for easy use. These bags are home compostable and can be used as a soil fertilizer for plants or other vegetation, but we wouldn’t recommend composting dog waste in your vegetable garden because dog feces contains harmful bacteria. They do meet the ASTM D6400 standards.

A downfall to these bags is that they tear easily when separating, and some people state they get dog poop on their hands, but most people do not have this problem. If you want a bag that’s home compostable, these bags are a wonderful option for you.

    Pros
    • Made from cornstarch bio-based materials
    • Home compostable
    • An arrow marks the opening for easy use
    Cons
    • Bags may tear when separating
    • Bags may be too thin for some

    8. Arm & Hammer Assorted Disposable Waste Bags

Arm & Hammer Assorted Disposable Waste Bag Refills

    Scented: Yes
    Dimensions: 9 x 14 inches
    Material: Plastic

Arm & Hammer Assorted Disposable Waste Bags are thick and sturdy. These bags are made with baking soda, which is a natural odor-absorber to keep the feces smell undetectable. They measure 9 x 14 inches, making them suitable for picking up after large dogs. They come in a 90-count or 180-count at a good price.

They are thin, tear easily, and don’t fit standard bag holders, and some people have a hard time getting them to tear apart from the other bags.

    Pros
    • Made with baking soda
    • Available in 90-count or 180-count
    • Large bags, suitable for picking up after large dogs
    Cons
    • Bags do not fit standard bag dispensers
    • May be too thin
    • Hard to separate from the other bags

    9. Mutt Mitt Dog Waste & Poop Pick Up Bag

Mutt Mitt Dog Waste & Poop Pick Up Bag

    Scented: No
    Dimensions: 9 x 13 inches
    Material: Petroleum  plastic

Mutt Mitt Dog Waste & Poop Pick Up Bag may be pricey, but these bags have their own patented design, and the 2-ply material will keep your hands safe from poop. They are puncture-proof, and the airtight seal will keep odors at bay.

These bags also serve as a water bowl for trips to the park, keeping you from carrying both a water bowl and poop bags. The bags fit standard bag dispensers, and if they don’t fit yours, they will send you their bag dispenser for free; they’ll even pay for you to send them your old dispenser for recycling purposes.

These bags are not biodegradable, so if you’re looking for biodegradable or compostable, these bags may not be the right fit for you.

    They come in a 100-count or 200-count.

    Pros
    • Airtight seal
    • 2-ply for thickness
    • Keeps odor at bay
    • Serves as a water bowl

Buyer’s Guide: Selecting The Best Dog Poop Bag

When shopping for dog poop bags, there are a few things to consider. Let’s look at some possible features that may apply to you.

    What does oxo-biodegradable mean?

You’ve probably noticed that some of the dog poop bags we reviewed state that they are oxo-biodegradable. Let’s explore what that means. If a dog poop bag is labeled as oxo-biodegradable, that means they are made with a chemical called EPI, which helps the bags break down faster than standard plastic bags. But—what just a second— that sounds all well and good, but in actuality, when the bags break down, they break down into even smaller pieces of plastic; therefore, it really makes more of a mess in a landfill.

    What does compostable mean?

If you’re looking for a true compostable dog poop bag, bags that advertise as being compostable are your best bet. These bags will break down faster than the standard plastic bag; however, for the bags to truly decompose, they need to be deposited into a compost facility, and there are not too many places in the United States that have these.

Even with that, you’re still doing a good service for the environment by purchasing compostable bags because, even though they will more than likely end up in a landfill, they will still break down faster, and they are not made of plastic. They are usually made from vegetable starch, like cornstarch, and they will break down back into the soil.

Another unique feature of compostable bags is that you can use them in home compost; just don’t use them in your vegetable garden because dog waste is harmful to humans.

    What does ASTM D6400 mean?

ASTM D6400 means that the plastic used when manufacturing the dog poop bag will break down faster than standard plastic bags. ASTM D6400 covers plastic materials, and for a plastic material to pass the ASTM D6400 criteria, it must have the ability to “compost” in a composting facility. If you’re looking for environmentally-friendly bags, look for this label.
