Three-Legged Dog Inspires

Dawn Wakasugi and Totie
If you’ve been feeling a bit down or just plain old sorry for yourself, (everybody does it, you know) here’s a story to learn from. The article was published on Gazette.com in Colorado Springs.

By BILL McKEOWN

Totie is not your run-of-the mill three-legged dog.

Theres no hobbling around the house feeling sorry for herself. No tears shed in the dog bowl. No moist, brown eyes pleading for pity.

Totie, though missing a foot, has attitude.

She lives for her walks,” said Toties master, Dawn Wakasugi, who lives with the brown-and-black beagle mix and her husband, Kirk, in a house near Meadowland Boulevard. She just cant wait. She bugs us.”

Toties enthusiasm for covering ground pogo-style big beagle ears flopping up and down draws lots of attention on her daily walks. When were walking, we get comments all the time, Shes one happy dog, isnt she?” Wakasugi said.

Like all proper dog stories that end with a wagging tail, this one started as a tragedy.
