You Can’t Keep A Good Dog Down – Kodah’s Newest Summer Favorite

Share

Kodah playing with his inflatable pool

Hi, I’m Dr. Karyn! Read my introduction to learn more about me and my five funny dogs, Poppy, Bailey, Kodah, Ned, and Fred.

As I was scrolling through the latest offerings on my local FB Marketplace, I was excited by the appearance of a new doggy water extravaganza. Even more exciting was that it was just down the road, being sold by someone whose profile picture looked suspiciously like someone from Yellowstone. Sadly, I discovered that I was not, in fact, mere streets away from Cole Hauser, but fortunately, the dog pool he was selling was exactly as advertised!

Lazy Exercise

As a busy dog mother, I am always looking for fun ways to keep the dogs occupied with minimal input from me. Kodah’s obsession with all things water has made this task relatively easy over the warmer months, though perhaps not so kind to our water bill. Fortunately, our heavy annual rainfall means that I’m not thwarted by the water restrictions I would have faced back in Australia. Being quite a simple lad, Kodah is easily amused by a squirting hose or a well-aimed water pistol, and the only challenge to setting up this new game was connecting the hose to the pool without getting wet. Once connected, however, all that was left for me to do was watch Kodah’s glee as he jumped, ran, paddled, and chomped his way through the water.

Excitement you can feel.

Ned and Fred were less enthusiastic about the dynamic new piece of kit, preferring to keep to the safety of the shallow kiddie pool and away from the overly exuberant shepherd as he launched himself in and out of the refreshing jets. Watching this overgrown puppy delight in such a simple contraption is one of the purest pleasures of having a dog, and you can’t help but appreciate the simple things in life. Or at least wish that we too could take such joy in something as cheap and easy as a ten-dollar marketplace bargain.

Too Much of a Good Thing

Much to Kodah’s chagrin, I have to limit his access to his new favorite toy. Not only will he leap and play literally to the point of collapse, but I also doubt very much that the main spout would survive more than a few minutes if my tenacious doggy were left unsupervised. For some reason, a large part of Kodah’s enjoyment of water is found in biting, snapping, and aggressively guzzling any water that spurts in his general direction, usually to the detriment of the device delivering it. As evidenced by the many garden hose nozzles that have befallen this grim fate.

I don't know how long it will last...

To be honest, I’m not really expecting this latest addition to Kodah’s list of favorite things to last more than a few sessions, but even so, it will be worth every penny.
