Blotched euthanasiaFailed to sedate our pet before euthanasia. This was a planned euthanasia for a week to give us the time to have our goodbyes. We were at peace with our decision and were happy it would be peaceful for all. That is not how this story ends!!! Our pet's last minutes of life were horrifying, traumatic and stressful. We brought our pet into the room and the vet jabbed at his right front arm with an electric razor twice. Then he proceeded to puncture his artery with a needle for the IV. At this point our pet started to fight and tried to bite anyone and anything. The vet told me to hold him down. Now, the IV needle has popped out and blood is going everywhere. I am holding him down, my wife is holding him down in the head area, and now the dog is howling (twice). He has not barked in over two years. Only at this time does he call for an assistant for a shot to sedate him. Sedation is now done and our dog is now calm. The IV is now started and our beloved pet is now gone. We on the other hand our in shock, disbelief, angry, having nightmares and our doing everything we can do to prevent this from happening to other pets and owners. Do yourself a favor. When you come to the decision to euthanize your pet, make sure you demand a sedation before anything else. Would I recommend this vet? HELL NO posted: December 2nd, 2009 |
