A few weeks ago I put some adult human guests in the back of my car enroute to a fancy party. Everyone was in black. Until they got to the party. Then everyone was in black and yellow. Alas, I had forgotten about vacuuming the velour-like back seat, and when we arrived at our event, my friends’ very own back seats were covered with Jake’s fur. As they stood outside the party doors brushing off each other’s derrieres, I vowed to myself that I’d be more careful with my guests when it came to dog hair in the back seat. And they vowed that someone else would drive to the event next year.
As luck would have it, the following week I made the acquaintance of Victoria Freger and Monica Dannehl, owner and designer (respectively) of a terrific business called Waghearted. The company is based here in San Francisco, with the mission of good dogs doing good. Waghearted supports animal welfare causes through the creation and sale of fun, stylish, safe, and practical clothing and accessories for dogs and their human companions. And one of those items happens to be the canine car-seat cover you see above.
I am now the proud owner of a “You Drive, I Wag” car seat cover. It’s beige, so Jake’s hair is completely camouflaged. It’s pretty easy to put on and take off, and it really works! It’s better than throwing a blanket on the seat, because it stays put. And it doesn’t soak through as blankets do if Jake has been dog paddling around a pond during an outing. I think Jake kind of misses the plush velour he used to lie on, but my guests don’t miss having bits of Jake on them when they leave my car.
And now you can win your very own Waghearted car-seat cover! Here’s how: Just leave a comment under this post about anything regarding your dog’s fur or hair. Has your dog shed in horrifying ways? Did she get a bad haircut? Your story qualifies as your “raffle ticket” of sorts. The winner will be determined by a random drawing of all qualifying entries. (If you write about toenails and not fur or hair, you don’t qualify.) You may enter up to two times. The deadline for comments is next Monday, May 31, at 5 pm Pacific Time. The lucky winner will be announced June 1.
Hair’s to some entertaining entries!
