When a linguistics professor comes home to find his wife dead in the back yard, he is desperate for answers about her demise. The only witness seems to be their dog. What’s a linguistics professor to do? Teach his dog to talk, of course.
This is the premise of the bestselling books, The Dogs of Babel, which is now being made into a movie. Mandate Pictures just announced that Steve Carell will play professor Paul Iverson in this drama. Carell has played a wide range of characters, so his portrayal of a bereft professor won’t be a ludicrous stretch for this funny man. In fact, he has even played a widower (in Dan in Real Life).
What do you think, Dogsters? Would you want to be able to talk with your dog and have him talk back? Or is the idea just kind of creepy? (Instead of giving you that pleading look when you’re eating a big meaty dinner, he can just walk up to you and say, “Hey honey, toss a bit of that medium-rare down to me. And while you’re at it, stop using that fabric softener on my bedding. It smells disgusting!”) If your dog could talk, what would you talk about?
