1. Blue

Blue Shih Tzus are a common breed of this toy breed. With a sleek, dark blue coat that can range from steel gray to black and everything in between, these guys will turn heads wherever you go!

While not actually blue in color, the blue Shih Tzu has a gene that produces dark coloration. In the right light, their fur gives off a metallic sheen that closely resembles blue.

Oftentimes, blue Shih Tzus will also have a black mask across their face, adding to the mysterious allure of this breed. Many have white along their chests and paws, as well as around their snout.

2. Black

Black is another common color among Shih Tzus. This solid black color is the purest of all the colors and helps show off the breed’s signature alert, inquisitive expression.

Most black Shih Tzus have a few white markings on their chest and paws, but some may lack these additional lighter-colored patches of fur. The coat of a black Shih Tzu is dense and may have a subtle brindle pattern.

3. Liver

Liver-colored Shih Tzus are one of the less common colors of this breed. This coloration can range from a deep, dark brown to a light reddish-brown hue. The best way to describe liver-colored Shih Tzus is to compare them to a chocolate bar.

This unique coloration helps set this breed apart from other toy breeds, and it’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Liver-colored Shih Tzus are sure to be the center of attention wherever they go!

4. Silver

Silvers are simply gorgeous! They have a beautiful shine to their coats that is accentuated by the white fur around their eyes, noses, and paws. These Shih Tzu often look like they were dipped in glitter!

The silver color can range from light to dark, depending on how much black hair the dog has mixed in with its silver fur. Regardless of the shade, they always look amazing!

5. Red

The red Shih Tzu is as adorable as it gets! This color can range from a golden honey hue to a deep, dark mahogany. Reds are a sight to behold, and their coats have a very glossy sheen to them.

These beauties truly capture the attention of anyone in the room, so you won’t be able to go anywhere without your pup getting some major love! Whether they have lighter or darker fur, they’ll always look stunning.

6. Brindle

Brindles are some of the most eye-catching Shih Tzu around! They have a mix of both dark and light fur, which creates an interesting pattern. Brindle Shih Tzus also tend to have lighter fur around their eyes and muzzle, making them look even more striking.

In some pups, a striped pattern is quite prominent, while in others, the stripes are more blended. Whatever the case may be, brindle Shih Tzus are sure to grab everyone’s attention with their unique looks!

7. Gold

Last but certainly not least, we have gold! This stunning breed can be seen in shades from light yellow to deep mahogany and everything in between.

As with all the other colors and patterns, this variation is naturally occurring, but you can also find gold Shih Tzu that are specially bred for their vibrant color. No matter what shade of gold you choose, these beautiful dogs will always make a bold statement.

Tips to Keep Your Shih Tzu’s Coat Healthy

No matter what dazzling color or pattern your pup has, it’s important to keep their coat healthy and looking its best. Here are some tips on how to groom your Shih Tzu:

Brush Often

Regular brushing helps keep their coats healthy and free of tangles or mats. Try to do this at least a few times a week. Many Shih Tzus also love a good brushing, so it can be a great bonding experience for you and your pup!

Bathe Regularly

Giving your Shih Tzu regular baths is important to keep their coats looking clean and beautiful. Be sure to use a shampoo specifically formulated for dogs since human shampoos can strip away the natural oils in their fur.

Trim Nails

When your pup’s nails get too long, it can cause discomfort and even lead to them breaking off. Make sure to trim their nails regularly to keep this from happening! In doing so, you not only promote healthy paws, but you also help keep the fur on their feet from getting nasty.

Visit the Vet

Finally, it’s important to bring your pup in for regular check-ups with your vet. This will help them stay on top of any potential health issues that might affect their coat or skin. Good health is essential for having a beautiful, vibrant Shih Tzu coat!

With these tips in mind and the knowledge of all the amazing colors and patterns that you can find with this breed, you’ll be sure to find the perfect pup for your family!

No matter which color or pattern you choose, these precious little pups will always make a big impact. Have fun searching and enjoy all the cuteness that comes with owning a Shih Tzu!
