Ace isn’t particularly picky about where –- or what -– she eats. Much of our puppy training with Ace focused on getting her to respond to the “leave it” command. We lived in a neighborhood that was littered with a buffet of disgusting morsels. Although Ace has now outgrown her coprophagia and can “leave it” like a pro, she’s not above munching the occasional errant spider or crumb of food found behind the trashcan.

Despite Ace’s behavior, I do in fact have a standard of decency when it comes to Ace’s health. While Ace takes care of the running and the munching, I take care of making choices that keep her healthy and me happy. I really like products that I can clean, like toys that are machine washable.

When Ace was a puppy I purchased the Pet Bowl Grippmat ($12.99 to $16.99) in small from Popware for Pets by Dexas (check them out on Facebook). I chose it because it is made of rubber and would be sturdy and easy to clean. I also liked the design of the mat, and in particular the eggplant purple color, which set it apart from other products I passed over. I’ve been pleased with how it has held up through multiple washings and being frequently soiled with food. Because of my experience, I reached out to the folks at Popware for Pets to review samples of their other pet products.

My favorite was the Collapsible Kennel Bowl ($12.99). I think my disdain for my previous kennel bowl further heightened my love of this bowl. Before, I used a simple stainless steel bowl with a thin metal attachment that secured it to the crate wall. This bowl often lost its grip on the wall, tipping it sideways and spilling water.

The Popware version is much more stable. A button on the base allows you to fold the cup up and out of the way for when it is not in use. The cup also collapses into a disk for storage. Another advantage of the Popware cup is that the bowl itself twists easily out of the base so that you can refill it or wash it in the dishwasher. I found the bowl removal smooth and I did not spill a drop of water. I think folks who travel with their dogs in a kennel or who bring the kennel with them on trips will get the most out of the Kennel Bowl’s features.

I was pretty excited to try out the Collapsible KlipScoop ($6.99 to $9.99), since it is important to me that I measure out exactly the right amount of kibble for Ace’s meals to keep her lean and fit (I wish I had a friendly giant to measure out my food for me!). The KlipScoop comes in 1/2 cup, 1 cup, and 2 cup sizes, so I imagine most dogs’ diets could be accommodated. The KlipScoop shares some features with the Kennel Bowl: They collapse, are dishwasher safe, and are made of the same BPA-free material. The KlipScoop’s handle is a grippy clip that can hold your bag of kibble closed. I think this is a great idea and makes this product unique and versatile.

I store Ace’s kibble in an airtight container, so I did not use the clip feature regularly. For my bag of kibble, which was made of quite stiff and thick material, it was a bit difficult to get the clip to stay closed over the folded part of the bag. If your kibble comes in paper-like bags you should have no trouble. While I love the idea of the clip, I would personally rather store my kibble in a separate container than in its bag.

Ace and I also sampled the Single Elevated Feeder ($14.99 to $16.99) in small. The legs of the feeder fold down for travel, and the collapsible, dishwasher-safe bowl pops out easily for washing. Again, I found this to be a sturdy, well-made, unique product. It will definitely travel nicely. The legs were a good height for Ace, and I appreciated the bit of rubber on the bottom of each to keep the bowl from sliding and startling my skittish pup.

Sadly, I don’t think Ace will be fooled by all these pretty and practical products. While a bowl of kibble served in an attractive dish will hold her attention momentarily, she’ll probably go right back to her trash-eating ways.

Dogster Scorecard for Popware for Pets

  • Quality: BPA-free plastic that can go in the dishwasher? Sign me up!
  • Style: I love the purple-and-brown color scheme and simple lines.
  • Function: All moving parts worked smoothly, folding for easy travel. The KlipScoop’s clip would benefit from a stronger grip.
  • Creativity: Dexas reimagined the typical routine of feeding a dog with colorful tools that transform.
  • Value: I found the prices fair for the quality of the products.

Bottom line

I like Popware for Pets products because they are easy to clean, well-built, attractive, and suitable for travel.
