What Is Pooch Perks? How Does It Work?

Pooch Perks is a subscription dog box service that delivers dog toys, treats, and accessories directly to your home. You’ll receive themed boxes that change every month, and each box will contain new toys and treats.

Pooch Perks is known for its highly customizable boxes. It’s great for multi-dog homes because you can mix different-sized toys within one box. Pooch Perks also works with a wide variety of vendors, so receiving a subscription box can be a great way to discover and try out new brands.

Keep in mind that one of the main items in Pooch Perks boxes are plush toys and chew toys. So, if your dog doesn’t particularly enjoy playing with these types of toys, it may not enjoy receiving a Pooch Perks box.

If you’re unsure about subscribing to Pooch Perks, you can select a one-time purchase to see if your dog would benefit from a subscription. One-time boxes are also themed, and you can choose boxes for different occasions and purposes, such as birthdays, grooming, and welcoming a new puppy to your home.

How to Sign Up

Signing up for a Pooch Perks subscription is a simple process. All you have to do is go to the website and select your subscription plan. Pooch Perks also makes customizations easy. While you can’t choose specific items to include in your box, you can request toys and treats that match your dog’s size. There’s also a space for you to mention any dietary restrictions. Once you’ve completed your customizations, you’ll provide a shipping address and make your payment.

Gift subscriptions to other people are also available, and you don’t have to worry about these subscriptions renewing automatically. Once Pooch Perks ships the last box, the gift subscription will automatically cancel.

Pooch Perks – A Quick Look

Pros
  • Highly customizable boxes
  • Can purchase one box for multiple dogs
  • Great way to discover new pet brands
Cons
  • Not for dogs that don’t like plush toys and chew toys
  • Limited options for receiving treats only

Pooch Perks Pricing

Pooch Perks offers different types of boxes, and the prices vary with each bundle. You can expect to pay between $20-$45 dollars for a Pooch Perks box. Pooch Perks offers one-time purchases as well as monthly subscriptions.

Monthly subscriptions tend to be cheaper than one-time purchases, and you can pay month to month or subscribe to a 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month pre-paid plan. There are no discounts with pre-paid plans.

You can also purchase individual toys and accessories through Pooch Perks’ website. The toys are valued between $6-$20. Pooch Perks currently doesn’t sell individual packages of treats.

What to Expect from Pooch Perks

Signing up for a subscription box is a pretty easy process. All you have to do is go online and select the type of box that you would like.

These are the current types of subscription boxes that Pooch Perks offers:
  • Pooch Box
  • Pampered Pooch Box
  • Toys Only Box

Once you select the type of box, Pooch Perks will ask for your dog’s size. If you have multiple dogs and they are different sizes, you can let Pooch Perks know, and it’ll mix up the toys and treats to be appropriate sizes for each dog. If you mention any food allergies or sensitivities, Pooch Perks will avoid including any treats with food allergens in each box.

Pooch Perks also offers flexible shipment options. You can choose to receive boxes monthly, bimonthly, or quarterly to match how quickly your dog goes through a box.

Pooch Perks Contents

Pooch Box: 2 toys, 2 treats, 1 chew
Pampered Pooch Box: 3-4 premium toys, 3 treats, 2 chews, 1 premium accessory, 1 waste bag roll
Toys Only Box: 3 plush toys

Quality

Pooch Perks has two different types of toys: plush toys and durable rubber toys. A common critique amongst customers is that the plush toys are a hit or miss when it comes to quality. Some toys are very durable and last a long time, while others will fall apart pretty quickly because they’re made with cheap material.

The quality and performance of the durable rubber toys are much better than the plush toys. They’re a lot more reliable, can withstand heavy chewing, and typically last for at least a month.

Variety

Pooch Perks has a great variety of toys and treats. Since each box has a theme, you’ll get never before seen toys and treats every time you receive one. While Pooch Perks has an abundance of plush toys and chew toys, it doesn’t offer very many interactive treat toys. So, if your dog enjoys playing with treat-dispensing toys, there’s a very small chance that they will receive one through Pooch Perks.

Ingredients

Pooch Perks works with reputable dog treat companies that have clean recipes and use high-quality, natural ingredients. Many of Pooch Perks’ dog treats can only be found online or in boutique or premium pet stores. So, you’ll get access to treats that you normally can’t find at chain pet supply stores.

Pooch Perks is also very mindful of food allergies and sensitivities. So, as long as you provide information on dietary restrictions when you subscribe to these boxes, Pooch Perks will make sure to send treats that your dog can enjoy safely.

Limited Treats Only Options

Pooch Perks doesn’t have a monthly subscription box that only contains treats. If you only want treats, you can select Pooch Perks’ Savory Dog Treats and Chews Box as a one-time purchase. Each box contains three treat bags and two chews. The contents of this box change every month.

You also can’t purchase the treats through Pooch Perks’ website, so there’s no guarantee of consistently receiving your dog’s favorite treats. If you want more treats, you’ll have to go directly to the treat company’s website or check if your local pet store has them in stock.

Is Pooch Perks a Good Value?

Overall, Pooch Perks is a good value, and you’ll save a considerable amount of money if you opt for a monthly subscription. You’ll gain access to fun and unique toys and high-quality dog treats that can be difficult to find elsewhere.

Another great thing about Pooch Perks is that it has a flexible delivery schedule. So, if your dogs don’t need new toys every month, you can extend the delivery dates to avoid having heaps of dog toys lying around your home.

FAQ: Pooch Perks Subscription

Does Pooch Perks offer boxes for multiple-dog households?

Yes, one of the great things about Pooch Perks is customizability. When signing up for subscription boxes, there’s an option for your box to include treats and toys that are suited for dogs of different sizes. So, you don’t need to purchase individual subscription boxes for each dog in your home.

Does Pooch Perks accept exchanges and returns?

Like most subscription dog box companies, Pooch Perks has a no-return policy. When it comes to exchanges, you can contact Pooch Perks by phone or email. Pooch Perks offers exchanges for defective products on a case-by-case scenario, and they’re quick with sending replacements for any toys that broke during shipping and delivery.

Do Pooch Perks box subscriptions renew automatically?

Yes, Pooch Perks box subscriptions will renew automatically. If you don’t want to renew your subscription, you must cancel at least 7 days prior to your renewal date. Any cancellations made after 7 days won’t stop the renewal, and you’ll receive all the boxes in your subscription. Pooch Perks won’t accept any returns or give refunds.

You can choose to cancel your subscription at any time. If you decide to cancel, you’ll receive the remaining boxes in your subscription, and your subscription won’t renew.

Our Experience With Pooch Perks

We had to test out Pooch Perks for ourselves and ordered a subscription box for our 7-year-old Cavapoo, Nora. Nora is a 20-pound dog and isn’t a heavy chewer, so we didn’t include any tough chew toys for our box. Since she has food sensitivities and is very particular with her food, we made sure to include her dietary restrictions with our order.

Our Pooch Perks box was shipped very quickly after our order, and we received our delivery within several days. It was an enjoyable experience for the humans to open the box because of the element of surprise from the mystery theme. Our dog also enjoyed sniffing the toys and treats through the box, and it was fun to see her excitement and anticipation build up.

We received a beach bonfire-themed box, which included two plush toys, three treat bags, and a cute card containing a description and explanation of each toy and treat.

The first thing we did was check the ingredient lists of each treat bag. We were pleased to find that Pooch Perks provided treats that respected Nora’s dietary restrictions and were safe for her to eat. It was also nice to receive a good variety of treats with different flavors, sizes, and textures.

Nora had the most fun with the plush toys. It was refreshing to see a set of toys we’d never seen before. The toys were of different sizes and materials, and each one had squeakers in them. Nora can be a vigorous tugger and can tear through plush toys pretty quickly when engaging in a game of tug. The plush toys were stitched well and withstood a lot of play sessions.

The different ways to play with each toy kept Nora entertained for longer. Once she grew bored of playing with one toy, she’d switch to the other one, and then she’d revert to playing with the previous toy again.

We had an overall positive experience with Pooch Perks. The most notable thing about our experience is the thoughtfulness and variety that were included in our box. It really felt like a custom box that was made especially for Nora, so it felt nice for both the human and the dog to receive a Pooch Perks box.

Final Verdict

Overall, Pooch Perks is a great subscription box service for dogs that enjoy playing with plush toys and chew toys. What makes it stand out from the rest is its ability to provide extensive customization options. Also, the flexible delivery schedule ensures that you receive your boxes when you need them and without excess.

So, it may take a couple of tries, but you’ll eventually find a box filled with items that are perfect for your dog, and it’ll always arrive when just when you need it.
