Celebration Of Life Week For Companion Animals
June 5, 2006 — Orthodogs and the Orthodogs Silver Lining Foundation (OSLF) have united in a week-long celebration, starting today through June 9, to honor past and present dog companions. Spurred by recent pet losses that deeply affected Orthodogs, an online dog owner community, a Celebration of Life” event was launched to focus on the many rewards of dog ownership. OSLF joined in to support the event with the offer of free commemorative Celebrate Dogs” wristbands for any OSLF donation made throughout the week. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, all donations made to OSLF are tax-deductible and the funds will provide last resort financial assistance to service, companion and shelter dogs with orthopedic surgery needs. Follow this link to donate.
The OSLF site will also host an online photo montage highlighting canine companions, many of whom have undergone one or more surgical operations for a physically-undermining orthopedic condition. There will be an online memory board where OSLF benefactors and dog lovers will be able to post a message for or about a special dog in their life.
Brenda Osbourne, co-founder of the Orthodogs Silver Lining Foundation and one of the all-volunteer staff, sees the need for a positive celebration of dogs. I’ve shared in a lot of the recent sadness of others on the loss of their beloved dog companions. We need a time where we can focus on our love and admiration of these dogs who have entered our hearts.” Osbourne is happy to see the Celebration of Life” grow and include an OSLF gift for donations. This celebration has become an opportunity to help dogs who otherwise might not have a chance to overcome their orthopedic challenges. I think nothing honors our dogs more than to make a difference in the lives of others.”
Wendy Stevens, OSLF co-founder and volunteer webmaster, looks forward to OSLFs participation in the celebration. The donor wristbands message of Celebrate Dogs is a message we at OSLF share with others,” Stevens said. Through our site, we’ve witnessed the incredible changes a dog will make in someones life; we’ve also witnessed how a dogs love and support is vital when their owner is disabled. What better reason for celebration than this unconditional love?”
All dog lovers are invited to participate in the Celebration of Life.” Please visit the OSLF site for more information.
