What Is the NiteDog® LED Collar Cover? How Does It Work?

Made with your four-legged bestie’s safety in mind, the NiteDog® LED Collar Cover is exactly what it sounds like—a flexible cover designed to fit easily over dogs’ collars, featuring bright LED lighting that keeps dogs fully visible and safe when out walking or playing at night. With this illuminated design by Nite Ize, enabling dog owners to keep their eyes on their dogs up to 1,000 feet away, those with night-loving pups never have to fear losing sight of their beloved fur baby in the dark again!

Founded in 1989, Nite Ize has been on a mission for over 30 years to “design and manufacture inventor-driven products that organize your life, protect your gear, light your way, and creatively solve your everyday problems.” Nite Ize carries a variety of products and gear that fit just about every need there is—ranging from home projects and organization, travel, hunting/fishing, fitness, electronics, and pets. Their Illumination series features products like utility lights, LED glow sticks, and even light-up gear for both humans and pets alike.

Nite Ize’s NiteDog® Collar Cover is made of a flexible and durable plastic urethane material that easily fits over most collars up to one inch wide and secures safely using two micro hook-and-loop velcro tabs. The energy-efficient LED settings alternate between two modes: a constant glow and short, quick flashes—giving owners the option to choose what fits their dog best at night. Even when not lit up, the collar cover sports a decorative paw print pattern with passive reflectivity that provides visibility at all hours of the day, from dusk to dawn. It comes available in two colors: gray and pink.

The NiteDog® LED Collar Cover makes nighttime playtime better for everyone by providing peace of mind for dog owners and increased safety and freedom for their playful pups!

Quality

Overall, the quality of the NiteDog® LED Collar Cover is solid. It’s made from a durable thermal plastic urethane material that’s also flexible and fits around any collar up to one inch wide. It secures easily around the collar with two hook-and-loop fasteners lined with Velcro to ensure it stays put no matter how rough and tough your pup likes to play. It is also water-resistant, making rain and harsh weather conditions a non-issue.

For these reasons, it scored 5 out of 5 stars for quality.

Variety

One thing I would have liked to see is a bigger variety to choose from. There are only two colors available for the NiteDog® LED Collar Cover—gray and pink—which doesn’t give dog owners much to choose from.

It also only fits over flat collars up to 1 inch wide. While this may not be an issue for most dog owners, more variety of options to fit over other types of collars—such as prong collars, chain-style training collars, or heavy-duty collars that are wider/thicker than average flat collars (such as military or tactical collars)—would make this product appeal to more dog parents who want to keep their dogs safe and seen for nighttime walks or play.

For these reasons, the NiteDog® LED Collar Cover scored a 3 out of 5 stars for variety.

Ease of Use

The NiteDog® LED Collar Cover by Nite Ize is an innovative product that is well-designed and easy to use. It is pretty straightforward to put on. Once it’s secured on the dog’s collar, all that’s needed is a push of the button to choose between glow or flash mode when in use, as well as to turn it off.

For these reasons, it scored a 5 out of 5 stars for its ease of use.

Is Nite Ize’s NiteDog® LED Collar Cover a Good Value?

Yes, the NiteDog® LED Collar Cover is a great value for any dog owners wishing to keep their pups safe and fully visible at night. Not only does it provide peace of mind for dog owners, but it also allows dogs some added freedom to romp around in the dark—likely for longer than they would’ve without it. It also keeps dogs visible at night when on walks, letting drivers, cyclists, and even other pedestrians see them from afar—giving dog owners and their canine companions some added comfort when out on their evening strolls.

For all the value it provides customers and their furry besties, the NiteDog® LED Collar Cover by Nite Ize scores a 5 out of 5 for value.

Our Experience With the NiteDog® LED Collar Cover

Using NiteDog® LED Collar Cover for our evening walks has been a joy for me and Coco, my 5-year old Chihuahua-Terrier mix. Going out for a walk or to the park to let her run around after a long work day is a necessary part of both of our days—for me to blow some steam, and for her to run off some pent-up energy.

With the LED Collar Cover, I can rest assured that Coco is always still in sight, as she does get overly excited sometimes and runs off (much to my dismay!). Keeping my eyes on a red glowing light zipping around is a lot easier than straining to keep my eyes on her tiny black self in the dark. She gets to enjoy more freedom to roam while I enjoy the peace of mind that she is always safely within my vision. In that regard, it has been a win-win situation for us both.

We’ve gone out a few times lately in the rain, and the NiteDog® LED Collar Cover has proven its weather resistance, as it continues to work fine and seems unaffected by getting wet. We plan to take Coco on a snow trip soon, so it’s great to know it will likely stand the test against frigid temperatures and exposure to snow. How Coco will do with that is a different story!

All in all, I would highly recommend the NiteDog® LED Collar Cover to any dog owners who want some extra comfort and peace of mind when taking their dogs out at night—something you can’t put a price on but that is of especially great value at such an affordable price. Best of all, canine companions everywhere will rejoice at the increased freedom they get for nighttime playtime—while being kept safe and seen.
