The Labrador Retriever is an iconic breed: friendly, playful, loyal, intelligent, great with children, and incredibly popular in the United States. They are ideal family pups and revered as such, but they are also used for working purposes, such as hunting companions and service animals. With all these remarkable traits, naming your Labrador puppy can be an overwhelming task indeed!

If you need inspiration to name your Lab, we got you covered! Whether you’re looking for popular names, female names, or male names, you’re sure to find something in this list!

How to Name Your Labrador Retriever

Naming a new puppy can already be difficult, and with a dog like a Labrador that is so full of personality, looks, and energy, there are so many potentially perfect names. Sex may be a large factor in naming your pup, along with their appearance, but in any case, a Lab deserves a more unique name than Spot! You’ll need to take your dog’s unique personality and individual traits into consideration, and it can take a while to get to know your pup well enough before you find the perfect name.

In general, you want a name that’s easy to say out loud and that your dog will be able to hear through other noise. A name with one or two syllables is best, especially for training, but more elaborate names can easily be shortened to cute nicknames!
