Our Experience

Buying personalized items of my pets is something I’ve always loved doing. Not only are they fun to make (and receive!) but they’re a great way to commemorate the pets I’ve lost. After looking through so many personalized items over the years, I thought I’d seen them all. That is until I was introduced to I See Me!’s personalized dog books.

I See Me! has five personalized pet books–five for dogs and one for cats. After browsing the book selection, I chose the If My Dog Could Talk book featuring my dog, Micah. Since the book is personalized, there are a few steps to complete before placing the order.

Once I chose a book, I clicked the “Personalize Now” button, which took me to the personalization page. This is where all the fun happens and you can add details like your name, your dog’s name, and two photos of your pup. This is also where you’ll choose a dog illustration that looks like your furry friend. A few of the breeds they have include a golden retriever, Labrador retriever, beagle, poodle, pug, German shepherd, and terrier.

In total, there are 12 dog styles to choose from. While this isn’t a lot considering how many dog breeds there are, the illustrations are versatile enough that you’re likely to find a pretty close fit even if they don’t have your dog’s exact breed. I had a bit of trouble finding an illustration that looked like Micah. But after going back and forth between two options, I ended up choosing the yellow Labrador retriever (Dog #1) since it looked the most like him.

The last step is adding a dedication note. This is optional (and free!) and is a nice touch if you’re planning to gift the book to someone else. Even though I’m keeping the book for myself, I included a note since there were a few sweet and simple messages that any pet parent would love.

Once the book arrived, I was in love with it! Not only are the words hilariously accurate (it’s like I could hear Micah talking while reading the story), but the quality is amazing. The illustrations are beautiful and the pages are thick. Even better are the personalized elements. I love that there’s a photo of Micah on the first and last page, and seeing Micah as a cartoon illustration is priceless.

I was also surprised to see my name on every page as well. If you look closely at the illustrations, you’ll find your name and your dog’s name on different drawings. One of my favorites was seeing my name on a coffee mug and Micah’s name on the dog bowl–too cute!

This is seriously such a great gift for pet lovers. I’ve already ordered a second book for a family member and I’m eyeing the How My Dog Saved Christmas book for the next holiday season–I absolutely want to see how Micah will save Christmas!

How We Tested

I followed the steps outlined on the website to design the book with personal details. The steps are pretty straightforward, so it doesn’t take long to fill in the information. The whole process only took me about 10 minutes, and I spent a good part of that time looking for photos of Micah to upload.

As previously mentioned, there are only 12 dog illustrations to choose from. This is something to keep in mind if your dog is an uncommon breed or a mixed breed since there might not be a style that looks exactly like them. In this case, I See Me! recommends choosing an illustration that most closely resembles your pup. This is what I did for Micah, and honestly, I’m really happy with how it turned out.
