If you’re thinking of switching to a freshly-made food subscription this year, it can be hard to find the differences between different subscription options. Many subscriptions are tailored to your dog’s individual needs, including Nom Nom. That’s great, but it does mean that you need to go through a lengthy onboarding process just to get a price estimate. These estimates can help you decide if freshly made food is something you can splurge on and if Nom Nom is right for you.

Your Dog’s Food

Health starts with food, and dog food is no exception. Many store-bought dry foods use unhealthy fillers like corn and soy to add bulk and calories without nutrition. Freshly made foods have the advantage of being low in fillers, nutritionally balanced, and high in moisture. They are made from real meat and ingredients that keep your dog happy, healthy, and energized.

Nom Nom foods also offer the advantage of being tailored to your dog’s health, with multiple options and supplements to help your dog stay healthy. But premium food does come at a higher cost, and it’s important to compare your options to find a diet that keeps your dog healthy without breaking the budget.

How Much Does Nom Nom Food Cost?

Nom Nom’s food is based on a subscription service, and the cost depends on the size, age, sex, and weight goals of your dog. This makes it hard to compare prices from dog to dog, but we can give some good estimates. If your dog has no health issues and doesn’t need supplements, you should expect to pay around $20-30 a week for a dog under 15 pounds. For a medium-sized dog (around 30 pounds) Nom Nom meals cost around $40 a week. For a dog around 60 pounds, you will pay around $65 a week for Nom Nom food. If you have a very large dog, around 120 pounds, Nom Nom meals will cost around $100 a week.

Sample chart:

Weight Approx. Cost per Week
10 pounds $25
30 pounds $40
60 pounds $65
120 pounds $100

All costs are calculated for an adult male of ideal weight.

Additional Costs to Anticipate

If you order Nom Nom food, you don’t have to worry about any additional costs. Nom Nom subscriptions come with free shipping, so you don’t have to worry about additional costs via shipping,  Nom Nom cost will change subscription costs slightly if you change food recipes since each protein is processed differently. For dogs under 30 lbs, they allow you to choose two recipes in every order and each recipe will cost the same. For dogs over 30 pounds, you can choose up to four recipes.

However, there are some extra costs to consider. In addition to basic food costs, Nom Nom also offers probiotic add-ons. There are two different add-ons available for dogs. Full Spectrum Probiotics are targeted towards healthy dogs with no digestive issues, while GI-Targeted Probiotics are made to help dogs with sensitive stomachs get by. Both come in 30-day supplies and cost $40. They can be added on monthly or as a one-time purchase.

Weight Loss, Maintenance, or Growth?

As you sign up for Nom Nom, most of the questions will be pretty standard, including your dog’s age, weight, sex, and breed. But one question is a little more subjective, and that’s about weight goals. The amount of weight that your dog needs to gain or lose will affect your dog’s portion sizes (and therefore the cost) by up to about 10%. If you aren’t sure if your dog is underweight, overweight, or about at the ideal weight for his size, here are some tips to help you.

First, consider your dog’s age. Is he fully grown or still growing? If he’s still growing, even if it’s just a little bit, consider putting him as underweight. If you have a female dog that is expecting puppies, you should also put her at underweight while she is pregnant and nursing.

Second, check your dog’s ribs. In short-haired dogs, the basic outline of a dog’s ribs should be visible, and you should be able to feel each individual rib if you are looking for it, but you shouldn’t see a distinct “skeleton” down your dog’s side. If your dog’s ribcage is completely hidden, your dog is overweight. If your dog has distinct, visible ribs, your dog is underweight.

Finally, look for fat deposits. Many dogs build up fat in their bellies, along their back, or in their chest as they gain weight. These deposits can be a sign that your dog is overweight.

Conclusion

As you can see, Nom Nom dog food does come at a higher cost than many other dry and wet food options, but it is in the standard range for freshly made food subscriptions. Your exact costs will vary, but we hope that this dog food comparison gave you a good place to start in estimating costs for a food that will fit your needs.
