The 15 Facts About Mini Goldendoodles

1. Mini Goldendoodles Are Like Teddy Bears

The Mini Goldendoodle is just like a little teddy bear. Their golden, fluffy coat, tiny body, and adorable puppy dog face can easily be mistaken for your child’s plush toy until they move or blink. They can weigh 15 to 30 pounds and stand between 14 and 17 inches tall. They are the perfect lapdog and travel companion, and you can take them anywhere.

2. Mini Goldendoodles Love Water

Most Goldendoodles have a natural love for swimming, whether in a lake, on the beach, or in your home pool. That shouldn’t be a surprise, given that Poodles and Golden Retrievers were bred as hunters and retrievers of waterfowl.

Swimming is also a great exercise, especially on a hot day. Unlike jumping and running, it is easy on a dog’s joints and beneficial for older dogs or dogs with injuries. Your Goldendoodle will be thrilled to join you for a day by the pool or lake, and it’s a great way for you to interact and bond.

While they may be natural swimmers, it’s essential to provide training and ensure your Goldendoodle is safe around water, especially for a dog as small as the Mini Goldendoodle.

3. Mini Goldendoodles Can be a Colorful Breed

The coats of Goldendoodles can be curly like Toy Poodles or wavy like Golden Retrievers. Some Mini Goldendoodles have lighter fur on their chest and belly and a darker coloration around their upper bodies. The color of mature Goldendoodles can sometimes appear to “fade” a little.

Although most are golden, they can also be:
  • Cream
  • Orange
  • Dark brown
  • Gray
  • Black

4. Mini Goldendoodles Make Great Therapy Dogs

Mini Goldendoodles make excellent service animals because of the intellect of the Toy Poodle and the obedience and emotional intelligence of the Golden Retriever. Combined with being an easy dog to train, the Mini Golden has the ideal traits for service work.

Mini Goldendoodles are incredible emotional support dogs that can help comfort, calm, and relax an owner battling with anxiety, PTSD, or any emotional trauma.

5. The Mini Goldendoodle Is a Designer Breed

The Mini Goldendoodle first started to gain popularity in America in the 1990s, and their charming name was created in 1992. Because each of their parents is a purebred dog, Mini Goldendoodles are regarded as a “designer breed” even though they are not a recognized breed.

6. The Mini Comes in Three Types

You may come across three varieties of Mini Goldendoodle puppies when looking for one: Australian, English, and American. The English is lighter in color and has larger bones than the American and Australian lines, and the previous generations of the Australian lines included Labradoodles and Spaniels.

7. Mini Goldendoodles Have a High Price Tag

This tiny teddy-like dog can come with a pretty hefty price tag. The price of these puppies will rise as demand for them rises. Additionally, because combining a large dog with a Miniature Poodle has negative health effects, breeders must pay extra vet bills such as artificial insemination and cesarean delivery.

The price of Mini Goldendoodles varies depending on several factors, including the breeder, the breeder’s location, and the dog’s pedigree.  Mini Goldendoodles often cost between $1,500 and $3,000.

8. Mini Goldendoodles May Live Longer Than Their Parents

The Mini Goldendoodle hybrids live an average of 10–15 years, and some may live longer than their parent breeds. On average, smaller dogs live longer than large dogs. The term “hybrid vigor” refers to mixed-breed dogs being more resilient, robust, and long-lived than purebred dogs. However, scientists dispute that mixed breeds are always healthier than purebred dogs, and a recent study found that hybrids are as likely to contract the same health conditions as purebreds.

9. Mini Goldendoodles Love Having Jobs to Do

Golden Retrievers and Poodles were bred as hunting dogs, which makes the Mini Goldendoodle a tiny but great working dog as a result. Canine sports, therapy work, and interactive games can give your dog outlets for their physical and emotional energy.

10. Mini Goldendoodles Do Not Make Good Watchdogs

The Mini Goldendoodle are kind, gentle, and sociable, which means they may be too friendly to defend the house while you’re away. They are also not known to be vocal and rarely bark, so any stranger approaching may get a warm welcome rather than a warning.

11. Goldendoodles are a Great Pet for Allergy Sufferers

The fact that most Mini Goldendoodles don’t shed much is one of the traits people appreciate about them, especially allergy sufferers. Of course, pet dander rather than fur is what triggers allergic reactions. However, Mini Goldendoodles are an ideal breed for people with minor pet allergies when they inherit the Poodle’s curly coat.

12. Mini Goldendoodles are Easy to Train

Goldendoodles are blessed with beauty and brains. They are extremely intelligent and eager to please, making them very easy to train. Their exceptional levels of intelligence result from the genes they acquire from the Golden Retriever, one of the top four smartest breeds, and the Poodle, widely regarded as one of the world’s brightest dogs. They are very open to instructions, socialization techniques, and routine learning and excel in agility and obedience trials.

13. Goldendoodles Are Highly Sociable

Goldendoodles are known to be highly sociable and get along with just about everyone. They also have a low prey drive because they are descended from Golden Retrievers, so they are not particularly interested in catching tiny animals. They get along with all family members and love the energy that children bring to the table.

However, while Goldendoodles are sociable, they can be friendly to strangers, which doesn’t make them the best guard dogs.

14. Goldendoodles Require Minimal Grooming

Mini Goldendoodles require very little maintenance and grooming, which makes them ideal for first-time owners. They may require a gentle brushing around once or twice a week to prevent tangles and knots and will only need to be bathed every 6 weeks or so. To keep their fur neat and trimmed, send your Mini Goldendoodle to a professional groomer every 2–3 months. You also need to trim their nails regularly and brush their teeth at least once a week.

15. Mini Goldendoodles Will Easily Be Your Best Friend

Mini Goldendoodles are smart and fun-loving, and when their physical, mental, and emotional needs are met, their gratitude will show, and they will thrive. They are loyal and devoted, and they love spending time with their humans. However, they can develop separation anxiety if they are left alone too often and for too long.

Conclusion

Mini Goldendoodles have so many great traits that they’re close-to-perfect companions. They are energetic, sociable, intelligent, playful, and affectionate. They closely resemble teddy bears with their tiny features and fluffy coats, and their low-shedding hair makes them ideal for allergy sufferers. However, one of their best-known and most loved traits, which is unsurprising, is that they are wonderful companions that will quickly become your best friend.
