This is another extremely disturbing story involving children. In Lake City, FL four boys stole five dogs from the Lake City Humane Society, throwing one off a bridge. The dog was killed.
The boys gained access to the shelter by moving part of a fence and squeezing through. All the boys are in custody, with three of them facing animal cruelty charges.
“It’s not the first time that we’ve had a break-in,” said Terry Marques with the animal shelter. “It’s not the first time, certainly, that animals have been taken. It’s just the seriousness of this crime causes great alarm in that these were basically children.”
One of the five dogs is still unaccounted for, the rest have been returned to the shelter. This is such a sad and senseless tragedy. I find any animal cruelty case horrible, but for some reason when it involves children it makes it that much worse. I guess because these kids are supposed to be our future, not a very reassuring thought. If children who aren’t even old enough to drive can commit this type of heinous act, I can hardly imagine what will happen when they become adults.
I hope the shelter has the funds to do something about getting some added security to help prevent this from ever happening again.
