Dog’s bone find leads to arrest
By The Associated Press
Article Last Updated: 01/14/2008PUEBLO It took six years to uncover a killing but only a couple of weeks to find a suspect after a pet Chihuahua brought home a human jawbone.
The Pueblo Chieftain reported Sunday that Charles Gross, 47, was arrested Saturday after he allegedly told authorities that he shot a man in self-defense in September 2001.
The man’s bones were found Jan. 4 underneath Gross’ former mobile home after a dog trotted home with the jawbone. Portions of a skeleton were found last weekend by a cadaver dog, and more were discovered Saturday at Gross’ new home.
It wasn’t the home where the man was shot Gross said he had moved and took some of the bones with him hidden inside a 55-gallon barrel, police reported.
The victim’s name has not been released.
