Man pelted with dogs, stabbed by puppy thief
By Catherine BestA 31-YEAR-OLD Victorian man is in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed by an intruder stealing puppies.
The man was stabbed in the stomach after chasing the intruder from a friend’s house at Kyneton, north-west of Melbourne, about 11.30pm (AEDT) yesterday.
Police said the man was pelted with two puppies as he tried to stop the thief, who escaped with one dog.
“Basically the female resident and an acquaintance were heading back to her property in Victoria Street in Kyneton,” Senior Constable Adam West said.
“As they’ve approached her property they’ve seen a man running out of the premises with five jack russell cross dachshund puppies.”
Sen Const West said the man gave chase and the intruder dropped one of the puppies as he ran to a getaway car.
The man started yelling and kicking the car and the intruder threw two of the puppies at him.
“As he’s kicking the car another man’s got out of the car and stabbed him several times causing serious injuries,” Sen Const West said.
The injured man staggered back to the house and collapsed on the driveway.
He was taken to Kyneton Hospital and later airlifted to a Melbourne hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
PCA Victorian president Dr Hugh Wirth said organised gangs were stealing puppies to order and were not afraid to use violence.
