How can I stop my dog from being aggressive with other people?

Our 6 year old Maltese is becoming more of a concern as our son, who is 18 months, is becoming more and more mobile and interactive with him. Our dog is aggression over food, toys, and even where he is laying. We cannot take food away without a bite. My son, who we’ve taught to be gentle, tries to pet the dog (with no surprises) and still gets a low growl. I’m really getting frustrated as I have tried contacting trainers (Bark Busters). We just can’t trust our 4 pound maltese…I can’t believe it!!
