If you’re looking for some dog birthday cookies that are easy to make, why not give our own recipe a try? These cookies are made with ingredients that you most likely already have on hand, including cornstarch, honey, and peanut butter, but you may have to pick up some pumpkin puree from the store. Food coloring and sprinkles are optional. Make sure that any sprinkles and peanut butter you use are free from xylitol, which is toxic to dogs. Our recipe uses a bone-shaped cookie cutter, but you can use whatever shape you want.

Ingredients
 

  • 1 cup plain no sugar pumpkin puree
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons all natural plainpeanut butter no xylitol
  • 2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
  • ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce 100% apple puree
  • Frosting
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ¼ cup cornstarch or tapioca starch
  • ¼ cup water
  • Food coloring optional
  • Xylitol-free cocoa free, sprinkles (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • To make the frosting, combine cornstarch, water, and honey in a small bowl. Add water until the consistency is sticky but a bit runny.
  • Add food coloring, if desired.
  • Combine pumpkin puree, peanut butter, whole wheat flour, eggs, and applesauce in a large bowl until combined.
  • Add flour to the large mixing bowl gradually, just enough that the dough doesn’t stick to your fingers.
  • Flour a surface and roll out the dough until it is ½-inch thick.
  • Use a cookie cutter or cut the dough into your desired shape.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the cookies on it.
  • Bake for 8 minutes, then remove them from the oven and let them cool completely.
  • For the frosting, dip the cookies into the cornstarch mixture, top with sprinkles (optional), and let dry.

  • Combine whole wheat flour and egg in a large bowl.
