What Is Bully Bed? How Does It Work?

For dog owners searching for a thick, supportive bed large enough for any dog of any size, this is the bed for you. The focus of this bed is thick, firm memory foam to support the joints of even the largest dogs so they can rest comfortably.

While the height of the bed may be an issue for dogs with significant joint impairment already, it compensates for this with no taller sides to make it over, just an elevated head rest on one side. Once settled into the bed, dogs are able to sprawl however they wish without feeling the ground beneath them.

Available in three colors, the bed also features two covers, one waterproof layer then covered with the colored microfiber washable cover. Ready to handle any drooling the large breed dogs this bed caters to bring to nap time, this also works well for urinary and fecal incontinence or GI upset unfortunately not uncommon in senior dogs.

Well-Designed and Durable

The draw of this large and supportive bed wasn’t that I have a large breed dog but instead three co-dependent medium sized, aging dogs. From the moment the bed hit the floor they were excited to test the weight limits of the bed, piling on together.

Having used the large size bed, the 7-inch thick foam did a great job supporting the dogs with only just enough dip to keep their angles comfortable, no more. I have one dog who is a super chewer but with no obvious edges worth chewing and the zippers hidden under a zipper liner/cover, she never even tried to ruin the party.

One of my other dogs, who was a professional parkour enthusiast in another lifetime, did not succeed in sliding this bed clear across the room in a single bound as she has all our other dog beds thanks to the no-slip base, which her sisters were grateful for.

Good Color and Size Variety

With four size options and three color options, there’s a version of this bed for everyone. While Bully Beds emphasizes the use of this bed for large breed dogs, I can’t imagine a dog of any size would dislike this bed. The smallest bed option, the medium, even has a shorter foam base at four inches so those dogs don’t have a hard job climbing in. It’s great for any dog that needs dependable joint support in their dog bed over time and homes with giant dogs that have trouble finding beds elsewhere, or multi-pet households that like to pile in together.

While I do think a bit more customization or color options wouldn’t be a bad idea, the colors available are diverse enough to meet most needs. The size of this bed will make it a statement piece in any room it’s in, so some more color and design options for the washable cover would be a good idea for people who want something more vibrant.

However, the darker neutral colors do have advantages. I chose the chocolate color, which does a great job not looking dirty quickly (a bonus for people who have dogs who like to get a bit messy!)

Excellent Quality of Materials

Bully Beds designates the foam for this bed as “non-hazardous” with an extensive list of things it doesn’t contain, to give you peace of mind.

There was no chemical smell to the bed, no loose threads, or frayed areas. The covers are easy enough to remove besides having to tip a giant lump of foam around and so I was impressed with the quality of the design and materials.

The choices for each layer communicate intention, all feeling high quality and working well. The waterproof layer underwent a spill test and passed with flying colors and the bed doesn’t have chemical smelling, crinkly material that will drive you crazy every time your dog moves.

Is Bully Bed a Good Value?

Yes! With the large size of the bed currently sitting at $229.99, discounted from the normal price of $299.99, the cost of this bed is an investment. While not the cheapest dog bed you can find, I don’t consider it too bad for this size. Dog owners with large or giant breed dogs will understand how high the cost is to find beds of their size.

Bully Beds does a great job of making that price tag worth it. The foam is not collapsing under my dog’s weight. This bed can follow through on providing a comforting, humane place for large, old dogs to get some rest and relief from their aches and pains.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wash this dog bed?

While the whole bed cannot fit in a washing machine, it has a waterproof cover that is then covered by a thin but soft washable cover. Unzipping the outer layer, it can be thrown in the wash like normal with any other laundry, and the waterproof layer can be wiped down as needed.

Does this bed come with a warranty?

The most important feature of this bed is that it has thick, sturdy foam that is comfortable to lay on but doesn’t collapse enough that a pet would feel the hard ground beneath them. While all foam collapses slowly over time, becoming less comfortable, Bully Beds maintains a 20 year no-flat guarantee on all their beds, so you can feel confident your dog will always have a comfortable place to lay.

Our Experience With Bully Bed

My dogs were fans of this bed immediately before the foam had even inflated fully. It features a head rest though they didn’t seem to understand its purpose, instead often using it as a backrest to sprawl across.

None of my dogs are incontinent so I tested the waterproofness of the internal cover with a glass of water. It never penetrated the waterproof layer even after soaking through the microfiber.

Removing the covers is easy enough if you’re comfortable manipulating the weight of the bed. Since my three dogs tend to use things together, smell can accumulate quickly, so the ability to easily get this washed weekly is important to me and my sensitive nose.

At no point has the foam become flat in any areas and it doesn’t collapse completely even when they’re standing on it. Thanks to a combination of the size, weight, and non-slip base of the microfiber cover, the bed stays exactly where I want it to even with multiple dogs running around.

I do live in a small house so this bed takes up a decent chunk of real estate in my living room now, but since it keeps the dogs from continuing to abuse my couch so much and helps my aging girls get some good sleep, I can’t fault it needing to be big to do its job.

Conclusion

Multiple design elements allow the Bully Bed Orthopedic, Washable & Waterproof Big Dog Beds to shine as an option for large breed or aging dogs. I expect it to last a long time despite heavy use by three knucklehead dogs. I am excited about how easy it is to clean for my own sanity and love the large size for the kiddos. There is no need for them to settle in any one position to fit with it being as large as it is (and there are two sizes larger than mine!). We are one very happy, more comfortable family now.
