“There are beautiful views of the Golden Gate and Marin County from this landscaped 21-acre park at the west end of Central Avenue in Richmond. This is the largest public off-leash dog park in the nation with over 500,000 dog visits per year. Other attractions include bay fishing, jogging and running trails, birdwatching, kite flying, picnicking, and, of course, dog walking. Please see our Dogs page for dog rules.”

I absolutely love Point Isabel!! It is the coolest offleash area ever...and I even swam for the first time ever...it only took 9 years for me to enjoy the water on a hot day!!

kinda

Point Isabel is an overcrowded park, a bit boring but nevertheless a nice area. My dogs don't quite like it, since several dogs are not trained, run around being out of control, many people have the attitude - aeh, the dogs will figure it out. It can come to ugly fights since you will find many unfixed dogs and unreasonable owners. It is busy with dog walkers during the week.. Weekends are most challenging. People argue a lot and dogs run into each other literally.. Everybody has different expectations when it comes to this park and many people seem to forget that being considerate is a good thing. I gave up visiting this park and don't regret it. There are so many lovely walking and hiking areas in the East Bay. I find it stressful to visit the park, since I watch my dogs the entire time. Some dogs just randomly attack other dogs, the owners don't care, show you the finger when asked to remove the dogs or take the aggressive dogs on leash. Also the statement: "My dog never did this before." is a pretty common response. Walking away without an apology, not caring about the wellbeing of the attacked dog.. I find it so sad to see all this - I used to go on a daily basis, even after I moved away across the bridge. My dogs are lovely, well balanced, trained and well behaved dogs dogs but at the Point they are very unhappy and have to tell many annoying dogs off. So do I. Aggressive and rude dog behavior is being commented as - oh, no worries, he just wants to play. Sure enough right after the comment another dog gets injured or scared, especially the small dogs. Small dogs are at risk there honestly and many owners of smaller dogs that I know don't want to go anymore. A dogpark is not for every dog and not for every person. Sometimes it is better to leave your dog at home, don't push your luck and maybe even put a muzzle on your dog! It shows you at least care.. I just find the attitude of many owners absolutely unbelievable and confusing. In the morning and evenings it is a beautiful area. Wonderful views more relaxed and quiet. My dogs love to hang out in the water and play with dogs and balls, rocks and sticks. They feel more comfortable in the water at the beaches across from Mudpuppies. My dogs avoid the crowds and feel safe in the water. But there is a lot of other places with water for them to swim and run. Once the tide is low and your dog loves water - oh boy.. this is a muddy business. There is a cafe and a little store with dog wash. The girls and guys doing the service part are usually friendly. Also here - dogs are supposed to be on leash. Does not happen - have to admit, I don't always have them on leash but most the time and they don't bother anybody. This area is a hotspot for aggressive behavior since there is food involved, people feeding their dogs off the tables, others randomly feed dogs that are not theirs, dogs steal food off the table and out of children's hands, dogs pee all over the food area, people don't pick up the poop around there, since some think it is enough to meet with people, let their dogs run loose and not follow up on whatever they do. Also means that they don't see their dogs poop. It is a nice area when it is not a busy day - rainy..., since you can truly relax and sit or stand without having dogs harass you. There are two parking lots, bathroom in the parking areas and water fountains. There is a hose to clean your dog after the romp. It is on the east side of the park. Have fun and stay away from the fights..
