Ask GiGi: Is It Fair for My Dog to Put Up with Guest Pups?

Think your boyfriend should have asked you and the dog before inviting paying guests home? Our sassy Boston Terrier columnist weighs in.

Dear GiGi,

So, my boyfriend has started a dog boarding service of sorts in our apartment. It’s been pretty casual so far, with dogs just staying a night or two, but I just found out that some stranger’s dog will be staying with us for three weeks come month’s end.

I don’t know if it’s fair for our dog to have to share her space for that long. And I’m a little miffed that he made this arrangement without getting my permission (or hey, our dog’s, for that matter). It doesn’t sound like he plans to give either of us a cut of his boarding $ even if it imposes on us all.

Your thoughts on how to handle?

Miffed in Manhattan

Dear Miffed,

Manhattan?! So you’ll all be sharing the same tiny crate? Sounds like your boyfriend has a case of the greedies.

While I’m all for a party, I’m all about profit, too. I’ve had my eye on this huge meaty mammoth smokehouse bone, saving my pennies, or at least the ones I can find.

Here’s what you do. Welcome the new pooch with open paws, but when your boyfriend turns his head, start taking inventory of his stuff. Collect a good stash of it, whatever you think would equal your cut of having to bunk with that freeloading pup, and cash in at the closest pawn shop.

When he’s fishing around for that missing iPad or collection of state quarters he worked so hard on, just sit back and have a good giggle. Why bother telling him? He didn’t tell you!

Patting myself on the back,

GiGi
