When Earl eats he empties his bowl almost everytime but never seems to gain a pound. Why?
I feed him properly, Is there something wrong here?

More information please? How old is he? what are you feeding him, how much and how often (total per day). How active is he? He seems to live in the yard with other dogs, is it possible he has parasites which are taking some of his nutrition.
Our 40 pound, 7 month old puppy eats 3 cups of high quality dry food a day.

Are you sure he needs to? See www.longliveyourdog.com Would he eat more if you gave it to him? How did you determine how much to feed him? Charts and the package are only starting points. Most of our Labs have maintained good body condition on 3-4 cups of Pro Plan. It took 6 to keep Lucky's ribs hidden.
