Stripping vs. Clipping

So I have recently gotten an English Springer Spaniel to start Junior Showmanship with. He's a finished champion and came to me a little out of shape grooming wise.

I've been told to use a stripping knife with him,but another groomer said that clipping him wouldn't matter.

Should I stick with hand stripping? And if I did clip him, how would it effect his coat when it grows back?

I would definitely do the hand stripping. Jr. Show is all about presenting the dog and he (and you) are going to look much more professional with his coat hand stripped.
Good luck to you, but remember...HAVE FUN!!!
