Stop dog from crying nonstop?

I have a 10 month old pit/lab mix who cries, constantly. He'll do it when he needs to go out, but he does it by the door. If I leave the room and put up a gate he will cry and cry and cry. Even when he's in the company of his friend (my girlfriend's dog). I have ignored him, I have used spray bottles, I have tried telling him to "hush", "that's enough", "stop", and "no". Nothing works. He will eventually stop after time, but will start right back up at the slightest noise.
