My puppy is 8 weeks old. We just got her 3 days ago, and she looks like she has worms. i dont get paid for another 2 weeks. is she going to be ok until then?

I got Ashlyn, (my 8 week old Siberian Husky pup), from a backyard breeder. I didnt want to get her, but she was covered in dirt and fleas, so I had to take her. The guy said she was fully UTD on deworming, but I've been checking just to be sure. This morning around our usual 4am bathroom break, I found 2 long skinny worms. At least I think they were worms.. They werent moving at all and they were really thin, like ribbon. But they were a milky whitish yellow. The point is, I just got my new job and wont get paid for another 2 weeks. Is she going to be okay until then? I have spent nearly $400 on her, trying to recooperate her and get her special food and alot of other stuff, and this was unexpected. I have to wait until I get paid to help her, but I feel so bad and dont know if she will be able to wait that long.. I'm an overprotective mother at best!!

I would call your vet and find out about payment plans. You may be able to apply for pet insurance or I believe there is something called Care Credit that may be able to help you. I would call the vet and explain your situation. Worms could really make your puppy sick...I wouldn't recommend waiting 2 weeks to see the vet.

I would try to borrow the money in order to take your pup to the vet. Worms can cause a number of problems such as: weight loss, diarrhea/vomiting, loss of appetite, low energy, anemia and I can imagine uncomfortable, possibly painful.
Call a vet and see if you can just bring in a fresh fecal sample for testing, this may save you some money. Only your vet can tell what worms are present and the proper treatment.
Over the counter meds at the pet stores DON'T work, so don't waste your money.
Congrats on your new fur.

I would ask friends and relatives if you could barrow some money then you could pay them back when you get payed.

Call the vet also if you pup should be okay for 2wks.

Also she/he should be fine till then..

Tip: Don't give table scraps to a puppy because it could lead to Diarrhea and things.. Thats what the vet told me not to do, when i had Snickers..

Deogie... the farm store dewormers DO work... Thousands of horse owners buy their dewormers OTC, and dog worms aren't that different (at least in what chemicals kill them.) Vet-prescribed dewormers may be higher dose, and combine more chemicals in one pill, but it's the same ones.

Guest, I would try the OTC dewormers. It sounds like she has tapeworms, but go for the dewormer that covers the broadest spectrum of worm types, roundworms, hookworms, etc. and make sure you get the right size dose.

Dieta

well, I think dewormers at the farmstore work but on the other hand it is best to take the dog to the vet for the wormer. Not only are the dosages wrong on the farmstore wormers but you may be giving the dog the wrong type of wormer.
Wormers go on the weight and type of worm the animal has.(my sister n law killed her puppy by giving it farmstore dewormers.)
If the worm is not moving then the man might of wormed the dog to the day you got him.
I hope in all of this you report the byb to the humane society, it is not legal to maintain any dog kennel without license and with sick animals. Not anybody has the right to sell sick animals and place the burden on others. I too was blind and bought from a byb and spent thousand on making the dog better. I should of reported them to the humane society. I know how you feel.

Starbutt

Go to a pet store and get happy jack it doesn't cost much, make sure if you don't get happy jack get something that says it takes care of Tape worms (this is what it sound like you described) and round worms these are the ones you can see in the poop and NO it will not be ok to let the dog go 2 weeks for treatment. They will get worse and could kill the dog. Look for the dog to be down it will lay about and not want to do much once it is this far you may not be able to help it. I would send you the cash or a bottle of this if I knew where you are. email me at devilsfreedom@yahoo.com and I will see what I can do for you.

Anyone else want to help this person out?
