My dogs skin has turned very dark. Why?
We adopted a Pom mix in June. She had pretty pinkish colored skin on her underside. We had her groomed in August and everything was fine. We had her groomed in October and that's when her hair started falling out very bad (I filled up a plastic grocery bag just brushing her one day)and her skin started turning very dark. She mostly has just her top wirey hair left and very little undercoat anywhere. The adoption folks told us she is around 3-5 years old. Our vet thinks she's around 6-8 years old. Our vet also said it's nothing to worry about it's normal for her. I don't think so. What could it be? She also has had coughing the vet says from allergies. We plan to get her tested to find out what she's allergic to. Could this be related to some underlying problem? Please help!

MANY poms have a genetic skin/coat condition where the skin turns black and they loose their undercoat. Sounds like this could be her issue.
Google poms and bad skin and most likely you will come up with more info and what people have tried for treatments, or even a veterinarian who can at least give a consult to your vet.
Good luck!!!
