My chocolate lab has a limp and no one seems to know why... help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there. I have a 17 month old chocolate labrador who developed a limp in his front right leg/paw about 4 weeks ago. The limp started the day after his booster injection. We've seen a vet three times now, however after a x-ray and numerous physical examinations they cant seem to find out whats wrong with him. He's on painkillers at the moment, yet even before he didn't seem to be in any pain when he was limping. The limp gets much, much worse when he has had a walk. We took the vet's advice and kept him in for three weeks untill the limp disappeared, but the moment he went back out it came back after ten mins. sometimes it appears to be in both of his front legs and as mentioned above, we dont think he's in pain with it, as even when his front legs were being examined by the vet and being moved etc he simply wagged his tail. He was being sick when he first developed the limp, however this too has ceased. has anybody got advice please?

Has the vet done a lymes test??? It is possible that he has lymes disease and that is causing the pain, especially since you say he was sick in the beginning.
Another possibility is panosteoitis, which is a bone disease of rapidly growing pups. He is on the upper age limits for this, but I have seen it in labs as old as he is. A vet familiar with this disease will see evidence of it in xrays of his long bones, ie shoulder and humerus. The good part of this disease is that it is self-limiting and doesn't leave any permanent effects. It can and does "wander" from leg to leg, hence it's common name of "wandering bone disease" or "long bone disease".
