how can I make my toy poodle less lazy

I have a toy poodle and she is kinda lazy almost all day she either sits in my lap or sits in her favorite chair sometimes I want to walk her but I just don't have the time and I DO NOT trust any dog walkers. I try to play with her and she doesn't want to play sometimes she is not sick at all (I have asked a vet about this) what should I do! one reason I can't walk her is that my mom hears about all the crimes on the news and don't want me alone. And most of the times she is busy(I am not blaming her) please help me

Andi a very concerned dog owner

You should play with your dog more and more then she'll get really excited about it. Try to get her interested in the toy, then she won't be able to help but play with it. Leave each play session with her wanting more. Ask your Mom if she can set aside some time at least a few times a week, a few on the weekend, for some family walks.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Joey

Hello Molly -

I am the owner of a pet sitting service. I am not trying to sell you on my services, but would just like to let you know about a client of mine that is in a similar situation.

My client used to take her dog out for walks (and even runs). However, my client became busy with work and school and was unable to maintain the routine. Eventually, her dog became overweight because no one took her for her walks. Eventually, they decided to hire a dog walker (me) because the vet warned that due to her inactivity she was becoming very unhealthy. I would highly recommend trying to work out a schedule where you can walk your dog at a safe time and place. If you cannot, try looking into walkers - they are not all that bad. Make sure that they are licensed, bonded and insured. Look at their testimonials and make sure you interview them and address your concerns. Good luck!

Tyson, now known as Winston

An easy game to play with poodles and to get some exercise for them is to use a stairway and a lure toy (something like a squeaky toy tied to a string like a fishing pole.) My dogs love to play with them and will run up and down the cellar stairs, chasing that toy. They get tons of exercise doing this, and after they get really good at it, they will push the squeaky toy down the stairs themselves (without the pole), race down and get it and race back up the stairs to push it down again. Great for exercise and you don't even have to leave your house!
