gum

shiloh stepped in gum and when i tried to clean it off his paw he bit me. how can i get it off without getting bit again

What I would do is: Get someone to give Shiloh treats while your cleaning his paw off and tell him he's a "Good boy". That always worked for me.

Rub peanut butter on it, it will dissolve it.
Then, enroll in a good positive based obedience class, and spend some time handling his feet and ears and other body parts.
