excited urinating!

My dog pees whenever she gets excited, or especially around my dad. She is a little over 1 year old, and we thought this issue would fade with time, but it hasn't. how can I make my dog stop submissive peeing?! or else my parents may find her a new home!

There's a lot of dogs who pee when they are excited. Some dogs just can't hold their bladders when they get excited. It happens. Some dogs grow out of it and some don't. Not sure if there's really a way to stop it but you can try a few strategies. One way is when new ppl come over to the house or if your dad just walks in from work or where ever ignore her until she simmers down a bit then give her attention. Or you may need to speak to a certified behaviorist about this issue.

I do agree this could get better with time. At one year old they can still be a bit immature. Another idea we did was to get the dog outside just as soon as the door was opened by saying lets go outside and did nto give the dog time to think about much besides going outside. i wish you the best and hope you cn cure this.

Yes, I used to think in terms of ''draining'' our one puppy.

Yes, many dogs eventually outgrow it, but you can reduce it by building the dog's confidence up. Start with obedience training. The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. As you praise the dog for following your commands, it will build its confidence.

Play tug of war with the dog and lose. However at the end of the game, take the rope or toy and put it up, less the dog becomes confused about who is top dog.
