well, i don't really know about cats getting sick from dogs, but cats can carry the strain of parvo virus that dogs get, and give it to your dog.

It really depends. There are some illnesses that can be transferred between different species of pets, such as between dogs and cats, and there are some that cannot. (There are also some that can be transferred to you, by the way - ringworm, for example.)

What I would do is to keep the kitten separate from your dog until you have been able to take the kitten to the vet for a thorough health exam and shots. Once the kitten has a clean bill of health, they can interact. (Assuming your dog also has a clean bill of health and all her shots.)

One thing I would note is that your kitten should not yet be separated from its littermates at 6 weeks old. Cats, like dogs, should be at least 8 weeks old (9 in some states) before they are separated. In most areas it's actually against the law to separate them younger than that.
