About Waggle

Waggle Pet Monitor Pro+ - micah with Waggle box

What is Waggle?

Waggle is a pet tech company that makes pet monitors and surveillance cameras. The company was founded in 2006 with the vision to keep pets safe through smart technology and mobile apps.

Two of their best-selling products are the Waggle Pet Monitor and the WaggleCam 2.0. The Pet Monitor keeps track of ambient temperature and humidity while the WaggleCam 2.0 live-streams footage of your pet. By letting pet owners monitor their four-legged family members, Waggle is on a mission to give pet parents peace of mind when they’re away from their furry friends.

Who is the Pet Monitor Best Suited For?

Equipped with RV power loss and recovery alerts, the Pet Monitor was designed with RVers in mind. However, any pet parent can benefit from having the device in their car or home. Not only is it a great way to keep track of your pet’s environment but it’s a convenient way for you to have reassurance that your fur baby is safe.

Pet Monitor Pro+ Overview

Waggle Pet Monitor Pro+ - holding monitor at car window

There are probably days you’ve left your pet home because you didn’t know how hot or cold your car would get. But you might’ve considered bringing them if you had a way to make sure they were comfortable in your vehicle while you were away. With the Pet Monitor, you don’t have to worry about leaving your pet unattended while you’re on the road. Between the easy-to-use app and the instant alerts, you can check on your four-legged friend and be the first to know if they’re in distress.

How it Works

The Pet Monitor uses sensors to detect environmental factors like ambient temperature and humidity and sends alerts to your phone when the numbers are outside the normal range.

To use the system, download the Waggle Pet App and choose a subscription plan that works best for you. Through the app, you can set up a profile for your pet and see real-time temperature and humidity readings. Next, install the mounting bracket in your vehicle by peeling off the tape and sticking it to a flat surface. Once you place the device in the bracket, you’re all set.

After setting up the system, you’ll have access to the following:
  • Humidity and heat index
  • Real-time temperature alerts
  • RV power loss alerts
  • RV power recovery alerts
  • Network alerts
  • Low battery alerts

If you have the Pro+ model, you’ll also have access to GPS tracking and geofencing alerts.

Waggle App

The app has everything you need to stay informed about your pet’s environment. On the main dashboard, you’ll see the temperature, humidity, and heat index, as well as the minimum and maximum temperature range. There’s also an icon for location where you can access GPS tracking and see the location of your monitor.

In settings, you can set the minimum and maximum temperature and humidity range. You can also turn on alerts and customize them to fit your lifestyle. Once all your preferences are set, you’ll start receiving notifications if the monitor detects changes.

Subscription Plans

The Pet Monitor and Waggle App are required to use the system, and a subscription is required to use both. When you set up your device, you’ll be asked to choose a plan that fits with your lifestyle. You can enroll, modify, or cancel subscriptions anytime through the app.

Waggle offers three subscription plans including:
  • Half Yearly at $129.00 ($258.00/year)
  • Yearly at $199.00
  • Two Years at $299.00 ($150/year)

Key Features

Waggle Pet Monitor Pro+ - monitor with temperature and humidity

Temperature and Humidity Monitoring

The Pet Monitor’s biggest claim to fame is the temperature monitoring system. The system lets you set a minimum and maximum temperature and humidity to ensure your pet is safe while you’re away. If the numbers fall outside the range, you’ll be notified within minutes. You can also check the app to see real-time data and change the settings at any time.

GPS Tracking and Geofencing

This is a cool feature that’s only available with the Pro+ model. It lets you set a virtual fence around your parked vehicle and notifies you when your RV/car moves outside of the designated radius. You can set the radius in the app and turn on geofencing alerts so you’re alerted if your vehicle moves. You can also see a map and satellite image of your monitor’s location in the app.

Instant Alerts

When you set up the device, you’ll have the option to turn on notifications. If there are any changes to your pet’s environment, you’ll be alerted instantly via text, email, or the Waggle App. Waggle lets you add up to five people to your alert list so you and your family will be notified if your pet’s environment suddenly becomes unsafe.

Car Accessories

If there’s one thing that put a smile on my face when I opened the box, it was the car accessories. I like having a way of letting people know that Micah is safe and comfortable in the car, and the sticker and mirror hanger are great for that. They state that there’s a temperature monitor installed in the vehicle so people know your pet is being looked after.

Is the Pet Monitor Pro+ a Good Value?

The value of the monitor really depends on your lifestyle and how often you travel with your pet. If you’re an RVer or avid road-tripper, the monitor is a good value. It’s not required to depend upon wifi while traveling as there is a built-in Verizon cellular connection. Nothing beats protecting your pet while you’re away from them, and the Pet Monitor is perfect for this.

That said, the device ranges from $249.00 to $349.00 depending on the model, and the app requires a subscription to use, so it’s a pricey product if you don’t plan to use it a lot.

Our Experience with the Waggle Pet Monitor Pro+

I’m not big into cars, but when Tesla came out with Dog Mode, I was all ears. How awesome would it be to know your pet is safe in the car while you run a quick errand?

While the Pet Monitor doesn’t control the temperature in your vehicle, it does keep you in the loop about your pet’s environment and alerts you if your furry friend is at risk. So, I guess you could say the Pet Monitor is kind of like having Dog Mode without having to buy an expensive new car.

Micah loves car rides, which makes him the perfect buddy to run errands with. I also take him on road trips where he has to stay in the car at rest stops and stores. I’m always mindful of the outside temperature and there are times when he stays home because it’s too hot (rarely is it too cold). But when he is along for the ride, I like having a safeguard in place to notify me if things in his environment change.

As far as tech gadgets go, the Pet Monitor is an easy device to set up. Once you install the app and choose a subscription plan, it’s ready to use.

When setting up the app, the first thing I did was customize notifications. I turned on alerts for temperature, humidity, and network. But if you have an RV, the power loss and recovery alerts are nice to have.

Once the alerts were set, I placed the monitor in the car. I put it near the backseat since it’s close to where Micah sits and is in a spot that doesn’t get direct sunlight. Within minutes of putting the monitor in the car, I was getting alerts that the temperature was unsafe for pets. Micah wasn’t in the car, but it was great to see the alerts were working.

I love that Waggle includes car stickers and a mirror hanger. People can get alarmed when they see pets in the car alone, so having a note on the door is nice for you, your pet, and kind-hearted strangers passing by.

For the most part, the monitor was accurate. There were a few times when the temperature reading on the monitor and app weren’t in sync. I also received a few notifications that the monitor wasn’t responding due to a low battery even though it was fully charged. But overall, it worked well when I had a strong connection.

I struggled a bit with the geofencing alerts. While I think it’s a great option for RVers, it wasn’t the most reliable. There was often a lag between the location of the vehicle and the GPS location in the app. Several times I took Micah to the park, the app registered the car at the park even though I’d been home for over twenty minutes, so this is something to be mindful of when using the device.

Final Thoughts

The Pet Monitor is a great device to have on hand. It keeps you in the know about your pet’s environment and alerts you to any changes that could put your pet at risk.

I’m grateful to have the monitor when Micah’s in the car with me. It can get hot where I live, and the monitor has been invaluable on days when the A/C can’t keep up with the heat. The app has been great, and I have peace of mind knowing I’ll be alerted if it gets too hot or too cold for Micah while I’m away.
