So, the Internet is all aflutter because Bruno Mars is going to play the halftime show of a football game in New Jersey (otherwise known as the Super Bowl) and he is not Bruce Springsteen. Or Bon Jovi. Or Jay-Z. And he has only two albums out, and my mom hasn’t heard of him.

Well, over at Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl, there has been no second-guessing, no worried looks around the table at the Kitty Halftime Show party planning committee — the bookers nailed their halftime talent. According to Entertainment Weekly, they got the legendary Keyboard Cat (or rather, the feline who took over for him after beloved Fatso died decades ago).

And the keyboarding cat is going to play Bruno Mars “Locked Out of Heaven” — eat it, football.

But that’s not all. As of press time, 30 kittens are slated to perform a “domino topple” and “one little daredevil will make a grand entrance by parachuting onto the field.”

That’s right: a parachuting kitten. And there, on the sidelines: Penguin cheerleaders.

I don’t know what the hell is going on over at Animal Planet, but I like it.

As for the Puppy Bowl itself, there’ll be a massive crew of puppies, all frolicking like they don’t even know the rules of American-style football. Viewers who really get into this sort of thing can even draft their own teams in the Fantasy Puppy League later this month on AnimalPlanet.com/PuppyBowl.

So, to recap: puppies, Keyboard Cat, penguin cheerleaders, no Bon Jovi, a parachuting kitten, a domino topple, fantasy puppy football, and “Locked Out of Heaven.”

Oh, and one more thing. Lil Bub. That girl. Star of many things. According to EW, the famous perma-kitten is going to “check in throughout the game from her Chicago studio.” In the words of Al Michaels, “You won’t want to miss that.”

Al Michaels is an American television sportscaster, by the way.
