Outward Hound is a well-known doggie brand that makes all kinds of dog-related products, so you may already own some things by this company and have a good idea of what they’re about. Today, though, we’re looking specifically at the Outward Hound PupPak Front Carrier. If you want to carry your small dog around in a backpack (but one you can wear on your chest) but haven’t found the perfect pack yet, this might be right for you.

This bag is designed so you can comfortably hold your dog in front of you like an infant, which enables you to keep a better eye on them. Carrying your dog in front also makes it easier for you, as there’s less strain on your back and shoulders. Most pet parents found this pack quite comfortable for both people and dogs, but not all dogs fit into this carrier, which could be an issue.

Security

This pet carrier by Outward Hound offers you and your favorite furry friend plenty of security. On the inside of the carrier is a harness clip, so you can clip your dog to the pack via their harness (never the collar!), which helps prevent them from getting out of the carrier. The bag also has a drawstring opening, so if your dog wants to stick their head out to watch the world go by, you can use this to ensure there isn’t enough space for them to jump out. Using the drawstring also makes this carrier feel snug around your dog, making them feel more relaxed as you travel. And to ensure your pup is extra secure, this carrier features waist and chest straps, so you can worry less about the pack sliding off.

This cute backpack also offers security in the form of extreme breathability for your pet. Mesh sides ensure your dog is well-ventilated on trips and will also help keep them cool and comfy on those warmer days when you’re outside.

Comfort

Another great feature of the Outward Hound PupPak is the comfort it provides for both you and your canine companion. On your end, this bag gives you padded adjustable straps and a padded back so you can choose the best and most comfortable fit for yourself. Meanwhile, your pup gets padding in the back of the bag and the pouch bottom, making their ride more comfortable. Plus, the nylon used in this carrier is soft, so you don’t have to worry about being chafed by it at any point. Best of all is the ergonomic design that guarantees even distribution of your dog’s weight, which reduces strain on the shoulders and back!

Convenience

If you’re looking for convenience, you’ll find that here, too. Besides the adjustable straps that make carrying your dog easier and more convenient, this pack should come with a large pocket to keep a phone, keys, treats, and more in (although a few people received this product without the pocket). This carrier is also a breeze to clean, so you spend less time washing it.

Size Restrictions

Of course, this bag does come with size restrictions. The PupPak comes in small and medium, with the small being recommended for dogs up to 10 pounds and the medium for dogs up to 20 pounds. However, some said their dogs, who fell into the correct weight range, still didn’t quite fit into the bag properly. The company also states that the bag is suitable for toy to small breeds, but not all of them. So, there’s a chance that even if your pup meets the weight restrictions provided, they may be unable to fit in the carrier.

Recall History

We could not locate any recalls for this product or other Outward Hound products.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does the bottom of the bag sag when a dog sits in it?

No, this bag has a support at the base that ensures the bottom doesn’t sag when a dog is being carried in it.

Do the waist straps cross or clip to anything to provide more stability?

Yep! The waist straps are designed to cross in the back and should be clipped to the waist on the opposite side. This will provide you with more stability as you carry your pup around.

What the Users Say

We searched the internet to find out what dog parents had to say about the Outward Hound PupPak Front Carrier, so you don’t have to. Here’s what people liked and disliked about this product.

What people liked best about this carrier was the comfort of it. Most people agreed that the waist and back straps made carrying their dog in the PupPak incredibly comfortable. Plus, the ergonomic design of the PupPak helps to ease the strain on shoulders and backs, so you can carry your dog around for longer, which people enjoy. Other aspects of this carrier that people felt were fantastic were its modern and practical design and the fact that it could fit several things other than dogs, like wallets, dog treats, water bottles, and more. So, comfort and convenience were the top winners with this product.

That doesn’t mean there weren’t any complaints, though. Many felt that the support cushion at the bottom of the bag didn’t provide enough support and stability. Another major complaint about this product was that the weight recommendations were incorrect. Some dog parents with pups weighing 14 pounds and up found that their dogs didn’t fit into the bags properly (or at all) despite the weight limit recommendation being 20 pounds. So, this carrier may be best for the smallest of breeds only.

To sum up, most dog parents were fans of this carrier, the product seems to be a bit of a mixed bag.

Conclusion

If you have a toy or small breed canine and are looking for a front carrier that’s comfortable for both of you, you might want to consider the Outward Hound PupPak Front Carrier. This dog carrier offers an ergonomic design, padded straps, and an ergonomic design meant to evenly distribute weight to help you avoid strain on your back and shoulders. The material of the PupPak is soft, and the bag has plenty of mesh to ensure proper airflow, so your pup enjoys a comfortable ride. However, it seems that this bag may be best for the smallest dogs, regardless of the company’s weight recommendations, so if you have a breed between 14 and 20 pounds, this may not be the best carrier for you.
