Salt Lake City is a dog owner’s paradise! With beautiful trails, wide-open parks, and lots of things to do, you’ll never run out of places to explore. But if you want to play off-leash, you’ll have to be a little more careful.

Luckily, we’ve done the research for you and found some of the best off-leash areas in the city.

1. Cottonwood Dog Park

  • Visit any time of day or night!
  • Best grass for off-leash running in the SLC area

2. Tanner Dog Park

  • Enjoy springtime greenery, autumn leaves, and cool water on hot days
  • Over two miles of trails with beautiful views
  • Lots of creeks to play in, including some shallow and calm spots

3. Memory Grove Dog Park

Off-Leash: In Designated Areas
  • Accessible dog trail right in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City
  • Make sure to follow clear signs about off-leash and on-leash areas

  • Mostly trails—not the best for open running

4. Brickyard Bark Park

  • Fenced-in dog pond with dock for jumping

7. Herman Franks Dog Park

  • Lots of room to run and play!
  • Fairly busy—perfect for social pups
  • Amenities include shaded benches, doggie bags, and water
  • Simple gravel running area that can get hot and dusty

8. Lindsey Gardens Park

Cost: Free
Off-Leash: In Designated Areas
  • Hilly, beautiful off-leash area to roam in
  • Lots of nature to explore!
  • Off-leash area isn’t fenced, so keep an eye on your dog

9. Rotary Glen Dog Park

  • Huge grassy area for running and fetching
  • Lots of pretty trails to hike on
  • It gets a little muddy—make sure to bring a towel
  • Creek for splashing down the trail a ways

10. Dayland Dog Park

  • Fenced park with grass and gravel
  • Small creek runs seasonally
  • Lots of drinking fountains and doggy bags
  • Not much shade—be careful on hot days and stay hydrated!

As you can see, the Salt Lake City area has no shortage of off-leash areas to play. You and your puppy can explore parks all over the valley.

When visiting any of these dog parks, remember to follow the basic rules of etiquette. Help your dog be friendly and avoid conflict with other dogs.
