What Is Noxgear LightHound LED Dog Harness? How Does It Work?

The Noxgear LightHound harness is a high-quality harness that’s designed to keep up with all sorts of outdoor activities for dogs. You can certainly use it as a standard harness for regular walks, but its performance really shines when it’s used in intensive activities that athletic dogs and hunting dogs engage in. The harness can also perform well in sub-zero winter temperatures.

One of the main highlights of the LightHound harness is its light housing. This light housing has patented technology that ensures the light remains bright after continued use and even when the battery is low. It comes with various color options and flashing patterns with designs backed by scientific research for maximum visibility in low light.

Before purchasing the Noxgear LightHound harness, there are some minor disadvantages to consider. While it is a high-performance harness that fits most dogs, it may not be the best option for dogs still undergoing leash training. It can withstand heavy pulling, but it does not have a no-pull design feature. Also, the main body of the harness is lightweight and breathable, but the light housing can feel a little bulky and strange for dogs not used to wearing a harness. So, it can take a little time for dogs to acclimate to wearing this harness if they usually wear a collar and haven’t worn a harness before.

I won’t ignore the fact that the Noxgear LightHound harness is a premium harness that’s more expensive than other heavy-duty harnesses. I tested out the Noxgear LightHound harness on my dog to see if it was worth the investment. This honest review will give you all the information you need to determine if the Noxgear LightHound harness is a good fit for your own dog.

Noxgear LightHound LED Dog Harness Pricing

The Noxgear LightHound harness is priced very reasonably. All the different sizes share the same price. Noxgear does offer promotional discounts from time to time so that you can save on costs. You may also find minor price changes by purchasing the harness from different retailers. However, when you purchase the harness through Noxgear’s website, shipping is free.

What to Expect from Noxgear LightHound LED Dog Harness

The Noxgear LightHound harness comes in four different sizes, and all the harness sizes are highly adjustable. You can purchase the harness directly from Noxgear’s website, and it’s delivered within the standard shipping time frame. The LightHound harness comes with a micro-USB charging cable for the light housing and an instruction booklet that gives you thorough information on how to maximize your use of the harness.

The light housing lasts for 12 hours after being fully charged. It’s attached to the harness with a thumbscrew, but you can easily unscrew it and remove it from the harness if you plan to take your dog out for water activities. Your dog will remain visible because of the reflective straps running along the entire harness.

High-Quality Design

The LightHound harness has a thoughtful design that’s made to keep up with active, outdoorsy dogs. Many heavy-duty harnesses have a bulky, uncomfortable design, but this isn’t the case with the LightHound harness. Its base material is made from a single piece of Cordura nylon fabric. This type of fabric is durable while being extremely lightweight and breathable.

The harness is lined with 3M Scotchlite reflective material that’s reinforced with high-strength stitching. The leash loop is also attached with the same stitching and runs along the entire harness for extra security. When you light up the harness, the light is visible from all angles. This makes your dog highly visible from a distance, and you won’t lose sight of them.

Visibility Options

One of the highlights of the LightHound harness is the light housing. It has a battery life of 12 hours before requiring recharging, and the light can be seen from about a quarter mile away. The light housing also has four arms that slide into all four straps of the harness, and the light travels through the entire length of the harness straps. This design illuminates the entire harness and completely surrounds your dog’s body with light.

The light housing also provides multiple color options. You can choose from eight different solid color modes. If you’re looking for even more visibility and something more eye-catching, you can choose from six different multi-color flashing modes.

Easy and Convenient to Use

Both the neck strap and chest strap have a wide range of adjustability, so it’s easy to ensure that the harness fits around your dog securely. The straps also have additional Velcro straps so that you can safely tuck loose ends and protect your dog from tripping over them. The light housing is reinforced with a thumbscrew for added stability, but you can easily remove it when it’s time to wash the harness. The harness is machine-washable and air dries quickly so that it’s ready to use on your next outdoor adventure with your dog.

Not for Dogs Learning Leash Training

Something to consider about the LightHound harness is that it’s slightly bulkier than regular harnesses when you insert the light housing. It also doesn’t have a leash ring in the front, so it doesn’t work as a no-pull harness. While the harness can withstand heavy pulling, it’s not specifically designed to aid in leash training.

With that being said, it may take some time for puppies to get used to wearing this harness, especially if they haven’t had much experience wearing a harness. Fortunately, you can remove the light housing from the body of the harness and get your young puppy used to wearing just the harness before adding on the light housing.

Is Noxgear LightHound LED Dog Harness a Good Value?

There’s no denying that the Noxgear LightHound harness is more expensive than other heavy-duty harnesses specifically designed for intensive outdoor use. However, the high-quality design and safety features of the harness make it worth the price. It has a superior design and can outlast many other harnesses. It’s designed to perform in extreme weather and keep up with search and rescue dogs and hunting dogs.

While the light housing isn’t waterproof, your dog can still swim while wearing just the base of the harness. Even if you remove the light housing, your dog will remain visible because of the 3M Scotchlite reflective lining.

Our Experience with the Noxgear LightHound LED Dog Harness

I tested out the Noxgear LightHound harness on my 20-pound Cavapoo. She’s a fairly active and energetic dog and is trained to walk on a front clip dog harness. Since she’s used to wearing a harness, I had no issue with getting her to wear the LightHound harness, and she wasn’t fazed at all by the light housing. What I loved about the light housing was that it was very bright and visible to me, and it was perfectly positioned so that the light wasn’t disruptive to my dog. She didn’t seem to mind the bright light at all.

I live in an area where the sidewalk is very close to the road, so the LightHound harness provided added safety and visibility during evening walks. We also have a lot of wild animals that tend to make bold appearances in the summertime, so it was reassuring to know exactly where my dog was whenever she was running around our yard in the evening.

I also like to go on runs with my dog, and the LightHound harness performed really well. The light housing stayed securely in place for the entirety of our runs, and it was nice to have added visibility that alerted other runners and bikers sharing the trail.

I only experienced two minor issues with the LightHound harness. I do wish that the LightHound harness had a front clip. However, I was able to resolve this issue by having my dog wear her regular harness and the LightHound harness on top of it. The material of the LightHound harness is very light and breathable, and doubling up didn’t cause any discomfort for my dog.

The light housing also does take a long time to charge fully. So, it’s important to remember to charge the battery after every couple of uses. Fortunately, the battery lasts a while, so I was able to turn on the light housing and go on a brisk walk with my dog, even with a low battery.

Conclusion

Overall, I had a very positive experience with the Noxgear LightHound harness. It does take a while to charge fully, but it also has a long battery life, and the light housing will stay bright even with a low battery. The best thing about this harness is the feeling of safety and security when going on walks or being outside with your dog in low-light settings.

I would highly recommend this harness to anyone who enjoys participating in outdoor activities with their dogs.
