The 5 Myths & Misunderstandings About Pitbulls and Bully Breeds

1. Pitbulls have locking jaws

Fact: This is a common misconception about Pitbulls and bully breeds in general, but this simply is not true. All dogs have the same basic bite structure and none of them are capable of ‘locking’ their jaw shut once they’ve latched on to something.

2. Pitbulls are more aggressive towards humans than other breeds

Fact: This is a common misconception that can be attributed to their history in dog fighting, but it’s important to recognize that all dogs have the potential for aggression and no breed is inherently more dangerous than another. All dogs should be trained and socialized properly so they can coexist peacefully in our society.

3. Pitbulls are dangerous dogs and shouldn’t be around children

Fact: Many people believe that Pitbulls are more dangerous than other breeds, but this isn’t the case. When raised and trained properly, Pitbulls make excellent family pets and can be very gentle with children. In fact, many Pitbull owners often say that their dogs have an innate ability to understand young kids better than adults.

4. Pitbulls are single-minded and cannot be trained

Fact: This is simply not true! While they may have a strong personality, Pitbulls can be trained just like any other breed of dog. They are highly intelligent animals and when given the right direction, can learn to obey commands quickly and easily.

5. All Pitbulls look the same

Fact: This is also untrue. While there are some common physical traits such as their broad head and muscular body, Pitbulls come in a variety of shapes and sizes. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to these dogs!

Want to Adopt a Pitbull?

If you’re inspired to adopt a Pitbull of your own, there are lots of great organizations that specialize in rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding homes for bully breeds. By giving a bully breed a loving home, you can be part of the solution to end breed discrimination and help show others just how wonderful they really are!

The Perfect Home and Owner for a Pitbull

Pitbulls are loyal, loving, and energetic dogs that can make wonderful companions. To be a successful owner of a bully breed, you must have patience and an understanding of how to properly care for these animals. It’s important to understand the needs of your specific dog, such as their dietary requirements and exercise habits, so that they can be properly cared for.

Owners of a bully breed should also have access to plenty of space, both indoors and outdoors, so that their dog can get plenty of exercise. This is especially important since these dogs are notorious for having lots of energy and will need an outlet to burn off all that pent-up energy! Additionally, if you’re considering bringing a pit bull into your home, it’s important to socialize them as early as possible so that they can learn proper behaviors and how to interact with other animals and humans.
