Big Barker Orthopedic Dog Bed Review in 2026: Pros, Cons & Verdict

The Big Barker Orthopedic Dog Bed is an excellent way to keep your old dog comfortable when arthritis and other joint issues make them achy. The product is well-made and big enough to accommodate large dogs with three sizes to choose from. Your pup can stretch out on this bed without falling off the sides, and the removable and machine-washable cover is brilliant for incontinent pets.

The height is a decent size. It’s not too high to make getting on it difficult. It’s also tall enough to keep your pooch off the ground while staying warm. The orthopedic foam is comfy, albeit a bit challenging to clean if it gets soiled. It’s expensive, but you get a lot for your money. The company got its start out of necessity to provide support for the owner’s dog, and the personal touch is evident.

Big Barker Orthopedic Dog Bed – A Quick Look

Specifications

Comfort

The construction of the orthopedic bed is something we’d see for a mattress we’d purchase for ourselves. The bed has three layers, with an additional 4 inches for the headrest. While the bottom includes a 2-inch base, it isn’t non-slip. However, it’s a non-issue because of the weight of the product. It’s not going anywhere. The company took comfort to the next level with a study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania.

Their findings concur with our first impressions of the bed. Pet owners reported noticeable improvement in their dogs’ mobility and joint function. They also noted pain reduction, with an improved quality of life. We were impressed that the company went the extra mile to test its products. It gives prospective buyers the reassurance they need to purchase the product.

Ease of Use

The microfiber cover is removable and machine-washable, a boon to dog owners. That makes using it a breeze. You can get a waterproof liner directly from the manufacturer if needed. Otherwise, you can spot-clean the foam, although it takes a bit to dry. The bed is well-made with high-quality orthopedic foam that provides excellent support. The headrest isn’t removable, but owners say their dogs use it.

The cover isn’t chew-resistant, although it’s made of furniture-grade microfiber. Contact customer support for a free 6-inch x 6-inch replacement patch if your pup rips it.

Generous Trial and Warranty

Here’s where Big Barker took a page from other direct-to-consumer products. The bed comes with a generous 180-day trial, although your pup will likely fall in love with it on the first snooze. Nevertheless, it’s an excellent selling point if you have any hesitation. The product also comes with a 10-year warranty, just like a mattress you’d buy for yourself. The company promises it will keep 90% of its shape.

However, the warranty only covers the shape of the bed, but it doesn’t include damage caused by the pet.

K9 Support

We appreciate it when companies go the extra mile to take care of our first responders. Big Barker does just that with donations of orthopedic beds to K9 officers. The manufacturer invites consumers to contact them about injured animals so that they can donate a bed to help their recovery. Big Barker is also the official dog bed of the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA).

Pricey

There’s no denying the bed is expensive. Its price far exceeds many comparable products. However, you must balance the cost with what you and your dog get in return. Many pet owners don’t think twice about the price as long as their pooch is comfortable. If it helps relieve pain, it is worth the investment. It’s worth noting that replacement covers are available directly from the manufacturer.

What the Users Say

We researched forums and pet sites for intel about what dog owners think of the bed. The reviews and testimonials were overwhelmingly positive. Many appreciate finding a bed that can accommodate their large pup without skimping on quality. Many cite the design and durable construction. Most dogs love it without encouragement to use it.

We were hard-pressed to find any negative reviews. The company seems to have anticipated what pet owners want in an orthopedic dog bed and designed it to fulfill those needs. That’s not surprising, given the impetus for the product’s development.

Conclusion

The Big Barker Orthopedic Dog Bed scored high marks with us. It provides durable comfort with a USA-made product. The design optimizes everything an arthritic pup needs to improve their mobility and reduce pain. Yes, the product is expensive. It far exceeds what you may pay for similar products. However, we look past the price to the benefits it provides. We like the trial and warranty, but the company’s social responsibility is also admirable.

Our verdict is that the Big Barker Orthopedic Dog Bed fits the bill on every front. It’s comfortable and manufactured for the long haul. It’s even easy to use and keep clean. Overall, we give it two paws up!
