Maintenance Between Grooming Sessions

If you want to keep your Bichon Frise fresh between trims, invest in a gentle yet effective dog shampoo. A regular at-home grooming schedule will keep their dander and shedding at bay in addition to hydrating their skin and keeping their fur fluffy.

Our Favorite Products

Bathing your dog may be challenging, but selecting the right shampoo can help make the process a bit easier. Our favorite products come from Hepper's Shampoo product line, offering natural, pet-friendly solutions meticulously designed to gently cleanse your dog's skin and coat without any risk of irritating or drying them out. These formulas are free of harmful additives such as dyes, soaps, sulfates, and phthalates. The Deep Cleansing Shampoo is a great option for pet owners who have difficulty neutralizing tough doggy odors. Hepper's Oatmeal Pet Shampoo is a great way to treat your pet to aloe vera and oatmeal's calming benefits while you revel in the delightful and refreshing scents!

    The 15 Bichon Frise Haircuts

    1. Show Trim

The show trim is the standard grooming style for Bichon Frises competing in dog shows. This cut has precise lengths designed to create a rounded, fluffy haircut. The coat is neatly trimmed, with the legs gradually shaped to maintain a fluffy appearance.

This haircut gives a Bichon Frise a cloud-like appearance, ensuring a polished look. Regular brushing and professional grooming are needed to prevent matting and keep this style in place.

    2. Modified Show Trim

For pet owners who like the elegant look of the show trim but want something more practical, the modified show trim is an excellent choice. It follows the same general structure but trims the legs shorter, typically about half an inch, to reduce maintenance. This version still retains the Bichon’s signature round head and fluffy body but makes daily coat care easier.

    3. Lamb Cut

The lamb cut is a popular style that gives Bichons a soft, plush appearance. The body is clipped shorter, usually at around an inch, while the legs and head remain fuller. This trim is relatively low-maintenance while keeping the Bichon looking soft and fluffy. It also helps reduce matting and is a good option for active dogs who love to run around outside.

    4. Teddy Bear Head

The term teddy bear cut is misleading, as it does not describe a full-body trim. Instead, professional groomers refer to a “teddy bear head,” which gives the dog’s face a rounded, fluffy shape. This look is achieved by scissoring the fur evenly around the head while keeping the ears blended into the roundness. This head trim goes well with various body cuts.

    5. Round Head Style

Similar to the teddy bear head, the round head style is another grooming preference for Bichons. It focuses on shaping the fur into a perfectly circular appearance when viewed straight on. This look is achieved by carefully scissoring the fur to create uniform fluff around the face while ensuring the ears blend seamlessly into the shape. The body can be trimmed to various lengths depending on the owner’s preference.

    6. Puppy Cut

The bell ears trim highlights the volume of a Bichon Frise’s ears, leaving them longer and more voluminous while the body is trimmed to a moderate length. The result is an elegant look that highlights the breed’s charm.

    7. Bell Ears Cut

The bell ears trim highlights the volume of a Bichon Frise’s ears, leaving them longer and more voluminous while the body is trimmed to a moderate length. The result is an elegant look that highlights the breed’s charm.

    8. Fluffy Tail Trim

The fluffy tail trim focuses on keeping the Bichon’s tail voluminous while the rest of the body is trimmed shorter. This style is ideal for owners who want to highlight their dog’s fluffy tail, without too much grooming. It pairs well with various body trims, from short to longer haircuts.

    9. The Fluffy Ears Cut

This is another super cute yet classic look for a Bichon Frise. Simply trim your pup’s hair as short as you can along the body. What makes this look so adorable is the fluff left around the ears. You can easily accessorize it to provide a bit of bling for your baby.

    10. The Regular Dog Cut

It may sound simple, but the regular dog cut can be difficult to achieve. The idea with this cut is to trim the hair close to your dog’s body but to allow the curls to be admired. However, you don’t want it overly fluffed out. The ears should be trimmed well to reveal them. This look will require a routine grooming schedule to keep it looking its best.

    11. The Lion Cut

The lion cut is a favorite for these little dogs when the weather outside turns colder. This look requires a decent trim around your dog’s eyes so they can see well. From there, you’ll trim up the body and make it even. Around the head, the hair should be left long and styled to resemble a lion’s mane. To top this look off, a bushy tail looks great.

    12. The Long Hair Cut

This is a favorite among Bichon Frise owners due to the adorable appearance it provides. The hair along the body will need to be clipped short, however, hair along the head and tail are left long. You’ll need to keep this look well-groomed but the cuteness can’t be denied.

    13. The Square Head Cut

With this cut, you’re going for a specific shape around your dog’s head. The body hair, including that around the tail and legs, is to be cut short. You’ll need extra hair around your dog’s head to style and hide the ears.

    14. The Helmet Cut

Like the round face cut, the helmet head is great for accentuating your dog’s gorgeous face. Simply trim the body hair as normal. Once that is done, the hair on the head should be left long so the curls can be shown. This is one of the more difficult looks to achieve so a groomer may need to help you out.

    15. The Bushy Tail Cut

This is an easy look to achieve and doesn’t require a ton of maintenance. Simply cut your Bichon Frise’s hair short all along the body and around the face. You’ll leave the hair on your pet’s tail long to show off those gorgeous curls. Make sure to groom your pet weekly to keep things neat.
