A tragic incident gave rise to inspiration when our favorite surf dog, Ricochet, met Betty White at the second annual American Humane Association’s Hero Dog Awards.
Darling Ricochet was dressed in her custom-made, ocean-and-peacock-inspired red-carpet dress, ready to wine and dine at the annual event, when she got word that fellow hero dog, Stacey Mae, died suddenly that day after choking on a biscuit. Ricochet met Stacey Mae the previous year at the Hero Dog Awards. Stacey died on the anniversary of her own award reception.
But a spark of hope came when Ricochet met Betty White at the Hero Dog Awards dinner. When Ricochet’s human told the outspoken actress and animal activist that the surf dog’s beautiful, one-of-a-kind dress was crafted to help raise money for animals in need, Betty was totally endeared to the concept, and agreed to match donations in Ricochet’s upcoming fundraiser drawing.
Ricochet’s red-carpet dress — which shimmers with sequins and a full organza skirt to represent the waves of the ocean, and is adorned with peacock feathers to symbolize personal integrity — will go up for grabs in a drawing, along with paw-tographed photos of Ricochet posed with celebrities. Proceeds will benefit Betty White’s Humane Heroes Club campaign in Stacey Mae’s name.
