West Paw Zogoflex Bumi Dog Toy

    Weight: 9.18 oz
    Sizes: S, L
Features: Bouncy, outdoor, exercise, water toy

This fun chew toy adds a new twist to things—literally—with its unique “S” shape. This shape allows for easier grabbing and hanging on during games of tug-of-war and makes fetch twice as fun as it flies further than most flyers. The toy is durable, as well, since it’s made from Zogoflex, a material that is incredibly tough while also retaining the ability to stretch (but not stretch out of shape) and bounce. This material is also easy on your pup’s teeth, so there shouldn’t be any danger of broken teeth from chewing. And because this toy is capable of floating, water-loving doggos will have a blast with it!

All materials used are BPA-free and FDA-compliant. Cleaning this toy is a breeze as it is dishwasher safe.

    Pros
    • Tough but flexible
    • Shape allows for easier play

    Weight: 7.36 oz
    Sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL
Features: Tough chewer, dental, training, teething

If your large dog is a heavy chewer, this is the chew toy for them. Designed explicitly for heavy chewers, the Hartz Chew ’n Clean Tuff Bone is made from highly durable nylon. This nylon is still soft and gentle enough, though, to help massage gums and fight off tartar and plaque in your pup. Plus, it will help keep your furry friend’s breath nice and fresh (always a good thing!). With its yummy bacon flavor, this chew toy will provide hours of entertainment for your pet.

This bone is good for dogs of all ages, from puppies to seniors with sensitive teeth!

    Weight: 8 oz
    Sizes: M, L

If a Classic Kong won’t do the trick for your furry pal, try out the Extreme Kong instead. The Extreme Kong material is built to be even more durable and long-lasting than their Classic Kong material, so your pup will be in for hours of chewing fun. You can improve the experience by putting treats into either (or both) ends of the bone. And because the material used to make this bone is still soft despite its hardiness, this toy will help keep teeth clean during chewing.

    This toy is vet-recommended.

    Pros
    • Recommended by vets worldwide
    • Super tough
    • Treat dispensing
    Cons
    • Not completely indestructible

Buyer’s Guide: Selecting The Best Chew Toys for Large Dogs

There are a plethora of chew toys from which you can choose, but you need to find the one that will fit your pet best. If you aren’t sure how to find that perfect fit, here are a few things to look at when researching chew toys.

    Materials

The materials that go into the best chew toys usually consist of rubber, nylon, or super thick rope for rope toys because they are known for their durability and difficulty in being destroyed. Some companies will have their own special, durable materials like those by Zogoflex, but overall, you’ll want to look for one of those three materials when it comes to chew toys.

Materials you should aim to avoid are fleece or plush and vinyl or latex. Anything fleece or plush will come apart sooner rather than later, even if your pup isn’t a heavy chewer, because seams are easy to rip. Latex and vinyl don’t hold up as well as rubber, etc., and can be dangerous if your dog bites through them.

Finally, if your dog is a water baby, make sure the materials used are capable of floating. That way, your four-legged pal can play with it during pool season!

    Size

Toys tend to come in several different sizes to meet the needs of different dog breeds, so you want to ensure you’re getting the right size for your pet. Too small, and you have a choking hazard; too large, and they might not be able to get it in their mouth to chew. With large breed dogs, you’ll likely want to go with large sizes and up.

    Type

The type of games your pup enjoys playing will help you determine the right type of chew toy for them. After all, if a chew toy can also be used to play a game of fetch or a rousing round of tug-of-war, all the better! So, decide if your dog would enjoy a simple bone-shaped toy that’s strictly for chewing, a ball or flying chew toy that can be used for fetch, or a toy that can be used for tug-of-war.

Also, consider if you want a chew toy that also doubles as a treat dispenser to keep your pet extra busy when you’re away.

    For Heavy Chewers

Not all large dogs will be heavy chewers, but many will be. If your pup is one of those, you want to look for toys made specifically for heavy chewers, as they should last longer than others. Do keep in mind, though, that no toy is indestructible, not even the ones made for extreme chewers.

    Price

When it comes to chew toys, cheaper isn’t always better. Cheaper toys will likely use less expensive materials that will quickly come apart from chewing. That means you’ll be replacing them more rapidly and not actually saving money at all. It also means there’s a higher risk of danger for your pup, as they could eat parts of the toy (which could result in a hefty vet bill!).

    Reviews

Reviews from other pet owners are fabulous to check out when you’re unsure about a chew toy, as they are usually more honest than the manufacturer’s description. Keep in mind, though, that all dogs are different. So, if a pet parent with the same breed dog as you say their pup loved or hated a toy, it doesn’t necessarily mean yours will feel the same.

    Conclusion

When you want the best overall chew toy for large dogs, you’re going to want to try out the Ruff Dawg Indestructible Ball, as it’s designed to be (nearly) indestructible and has a great bounce factor to it. Want the best chew toy for large dogs for the money? Then, look at the Frisco Chicken Flavor Tough Nylon Dog Chew Toy since it holds up for a long while and helps keep teeth clean. Finally, if it’s a chew toy that’s a bit more premium that you’re after, we recommend the West Paw Zogoflex Large Tux Tough Treat Dispensing Dog Chew Toy for its durability and ability to hold treats.
