Where the names come from
Every suggestion comes from a published Dogster name list. These include breed guides, coat-color ideas, and themes such as food, nature, and mythology. The link beside each name takes you to an article that includes it, with more suggestions and any background or meanings provided by that guide.

How your choices shape the results
Your choices work together to filter the name ideas. Here's what each one does:
Boy, Girl, or Either
Boy and Girl include names listed for that gender plus names used for either. Either shows all genders.
Breed
Only names listed in guides for your chosen breed are included. Pick Any breed if you're unsure or want ideas from across the breed guides.
Coat color and style
Choosing a coat color limits ideas to that color. If you pick several styles, each name will match at least one of them.
First letter and length
These filter the results. Short means up to 4 letters, Medium means 5–6, and Long means 7 or more. Length counts letters, not syllables.
We shuffle the matching names and start with up to 10 ideas. “Generate more” adds the next batch below the existing cards without repeating names. Changing a preference or choosing “Shuffle again” starts a fresh list; saved favorites stay in your shortlist. If no names fit, adjust a preference to broaden your options. A fresh shuffle may bring back names you've already seen.
