To get philosophical here, life starts with breathing… so why do we seldom prioritize this? As someone who suffers from allergies and has a dog that suffers the same as me (clearly she is my child), clean air becomes important. I want her to feel good, I want myself to feel good, and I don’t want my house to smell like dog. These days, we all find ourselves living in smaller spaces, so having a huge air purifier may not always be an option.

That’s where the Intellipure Compact Air Purifier shines – a small space godsend that is here to clean the air up for you and the pup (see, it even rhymes!). I was very excited to try this system out on a home that I knew had never seen the likes of a purifier before to really test it out.

Our Experience

Intellipure Compact Air Purifier Review - assembling product

We experienced a massive wildfire at the beginning of the year, there are likely still particles and not-good-stuff lingering about in the air despite five months having already passed. Pair with the fact that it is spring and everything is back to blooming, and both mine and my dog’s sinus systems aren’t faring too well. Despite having a large industrial filter in my home, my partner doesn’t have one at all – so that is where this went. The ultimate test.

Upon unboxing, the machine was ready to go. Just pop off the main compartment to unfurl the pre-filter from its plastic wrap (this is the first time I’ve even seen a pre-filter, neat idea) and pop it back into place. Everything was very intuitive and obvious in the design, with arrows pointing to help you figure it all out. I don’t think I even opened the instruction manual once. Then I plugged in the cable and that’s it.

This air purifier is truly compact, it is two-Lorelei-size as I say! My dog is only 10 lbs, so that’s pretty small. The space isn’t very big, so this size purifier was perfect. There was a lot of spots where we could easily place this compact machine, and we opted to set it right near Lorelei’s kennel.

Lorelei is not fussed by sounds, if anything, she quite likes the white noise – so setting it to Turbo for an hour to do a deep clean did not bother her at all! We then brought it down to Medium instead of Low, simply because it remained very quiet at Medium (and completely negligible at Low) so I opted for it to work a bit harder since the sound was not bothersome whatsoever.

The Intellipure Compact Air Purifier has remained on Medium since, besides jumping to High or Turbo after we vacuum or brush Lorelei, because that kicks up particles and mess. The difference really is outstanding. Our sinuses are a lot better, and my dog’s eyes are not watering much anymore, and you can even smell the difference! Walking inside, I can easily notice the difference in the way the apartment smells. A+!

Key Features

Intellipure Compact Air Purifier Review - six stage filter

99.97% Effective

The whole point of investing in an air purifier is its efficacy, right? This air purifier is 99.97% effective in removing allergens, mold, viruses, and other particles floating around in the air.

This system uses DFS (Disinfecting Filtration System), which is Intellipure’s proprietary design, created through a military grant that yielded a filtration system that can capture microns as small as 0.007. Intellipure likes to compare microns to red blood cells: a red blood cell is 6.2–8.2 microns.

In layman’s terms, this is even more effective and advanced than HEPA-certified systems. Filters that match exact HEPA standards can’t catch anything that small (which is why this system is certified by HEPA but goes on to state that it exceeds those standards)! As such, the Intellipure compact air purifier will filter out with a lot more detail and rigor.

The machine uses two filters: a pre-filter that stands in the front, and a main filter that takes up the rest of the machine. The pre-filter needs to be changed every three to six months, and the main filter gets changed once a year (every 12 months).

The pre-filter is known as a 6-stage VOC (Volatile Organic Compound), made of polyester mesh, mini-pleat filter, carbon, zeolite, potassium permanganate, and another layer of polyester mesh. This filter is meant to catch larger particles so that they don’t clog up the main filter.

The main filter is what captures those itty-bitty 0.007 microns. It is designed to prevent microbial growth as well, so the purifier itself won’t emit anything harmful.

Attractive and Compact Design

What drew me in was the sleek, modern, and compact design. It won’t be an eyesore in any of your rooms.

Being 11.22” × 15.15” × 24”, it’s quite small but packs a punch, clearing 500 or so square foot rooms. The top of the filter features a small handle under the main menu at the  top, making it easy to move around your home. Weighing only 23 pounds, this is also probably the lightest air purifier I’ve ever seen that is this powerful.

How thin it is makes it easy to place in corners or slide between a dresser and my dog’s kennel, to keep it working but out of the way. I do wish it came in more colors than just white, but this is a super minor gripe.

This air purifier is also very quiet, only reaching 34-63 dB depending on what setting you put it on.

Ease Of Use

The Intellipure Compact Air Purifier is as simple as can be – plug and play! The top of the air purifier has a large power button, which is also used to cycle through the four different modes. Press the power button to cycle through each intensity, and once it reaches Turbo, one more click turns the machine off.

Opening the purifier to change the filters isn’t complicated either. The very front of the purifier features two notches at the bottom of the machine. Just pull either side, and the panel comes off. You will immediately see the pre-filter right there for you; it just pops in and out of place with a convenient tab at the top. To replace the main filter, just take a screwdriver, undo the four bolts, and pop off that section by pulling the tab. The filters themselves have arrows to show how to put them into place.

To put the panel back on, align the two notches at the top of the panel to the machine, and the rest will pop back into place – the bottom of the panel is magnetized to the machine. The pop is very satisfying!

Made In the USA

One of the more unique features of the Intellipure brand as a whole is that their air purifiers are all made in the United States. The Compact Air Purifier is designed and assembled at the company’s headquarters in Pulaski, New York.

Is the Intellipure Compact Air Purifier a Good Value?

I believe yours and your pet’s health is invaluable, and the Intellipure Compact Air Purifier helps achieve those goals one room at a time.

Priced at $219.00, with filters priced at $39 (for the pre-filter) and $74 (for the main filter), this isn’t the least expensive system out there; however, this is a very mid-range price point for a purifier with this many perks.

Being such a sleek, quiet, and effective machine, this is a excellent value.

How We Tested

Because I already have a huge industrial air purifier at my house, I thought the best place to test the Intellipure Compact Air Purifier would be in a space that had never seen the likes of an air purifier before: my partner’s home!

After unboxing the purifier, I installed the pre-filter and placed it. We set the purifier to Turbo for about an hour to do a deep air clean and then dropped it down to medium, leaving it at the medium setting for the last few days. Within about 24 or so hours, I could really smell and feel the difference in the environment – within three days, my allergies were non-existent, even with the window open during some of the daytime!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What Is the Warranty?

Intellipure offers a 5-year limited warranty when the product is registered (registration is easy! The form comes with the purifier). To have them honor this warranty, ensure you follow all of the care directions, including the required filter-replacement schedule.

Of the Four Modes, How Do I Know Which One To Use When?

For the four modes, this is what each one is intended for:

  • Low: This is the quietest and “weakest” mode, best for sleeping or being on a call.
  • Medium: This is the everyday use mode.
  • High: This is the mode to use if your home is filled with activity that can kick up dander and dust (such as pets playing or guests coming over).
  • Turbo: This is the strongest mode if you need a deep clean. I highly suggest using Turbo after you’ve vacuumed or are done grooming your pet. You just need it on for about an hour, and then you can drop it down to any of the other modes.

How Do I Know If The Purifier Is Working?

It is likely working when you have fewer allergies and irritation reactions, and the only thing you’ve changed is adding an air purifier.

Finding less dust and grime around filters and other spots where they tend to settle is another very positive sign. For us pet owners, less pet smell in the home is another benefit.

You can also see the amount of stuff the air purifier catches by opening it up and doing a quick filter check.

My Pet Is Scared Of The Air Purifier – What Do I Do?

By default, we tend to put the air purifier closer to our pet’s things, as that is the culprit of a lot of the dirt and dander; however, some pups and kitties can be rather timid with the machine. Some quick tips to help them get over their fear include:

  • Start with the purifier on its quietest mode (the Turbo may be too loud!)
  • Offer a lot of treats and positive reinforcement near the purifier (think high-value treats – something your pet finds irresistible)
  • Avoid placing the purifier near your pet’s favorite sleeping place or feeding area

Give it a few days – most pets quickly get used to it!

Conclusion

Small but indeed mighty, the Intellipure Compact Air Purifier packs a big punch in a small space, helping your room(s) smell fresh and clean. Low profile and quiet enough to easily use around your puppy or kitty, I love that my partner’s home doesn’t smell like we have pets – all thanks to this powerful little machine. I highly recommend it to pet owners (and allergy sufferers like me) everywhere!
