The shaggy, spirited, and somewhat scrappy Cairn Terrier is one of the earliest Scottish dog breeds. The loving and lively pup makes a fantastic family pet for every household. Weighing only seven to 10 pounds, this pint-sized Terrier is a natural people-pleaser. When intentionally bred with other purebred dogs, Cairn Terrier hybrids can possess the best traits of each breed.

If you’re wondering which Cairn Terrier mixes are available, we have you covered. Here are 13 Cairn Terrier mixes that we’re sure you’re going to love.

Top 13 Cairn Terrier Mixes:

1. Toxirn (Cairn Terrier x Chihuahua)

As petite dogs developed by breeding a Cairn Terrier with a Chihuahua, Toxirns are pocket-sized pups with loads of spunk. They’re profoundly devoted, can develop a strong connection with their owner, and are prone to separation anxiety. If you’re away from home for long periods, a Toxirn might not be the ideal dog for you.

2. Pekairn (Cairn Terrier x Pekingese)

With an exotic-sounding name, the Pekairn is a mix between a Cairn Terrier and a Pekingese. They’re fluffy and feisty, and they have a thick, double-layered coat that makes them look twice as big. However, they only weigh around 12 pounds!

3. Carkie (Cairn Terrier x Yorkshire Terrier)

A Carkie is a cross between a Yorkie and a Cairn Terrier. As a cuddly and compassionate dog, the Carkie makes an excellent playmate for young children and other household pets. Their alert and protective nature them an excellent protector.

4. Cairn Tzu (Cairn Terrier x Shih Tzu)

Weighing only 16 pounds or less, the Cairn Tzu is a cross between the Cairn Terrier and the Shih Tzu. Because their parents have drastically different coats, the Cairn Tzu can either have long, silky fur or a short, wiry coat. Because of the Shih Tzu’s short, flat muzzle, the Cairn Tzu is prone to several health issues, such as breathing problems and eye tearing.

5. Cairnoodle (Cairn Terrier x Poodle)

They’re easy to train and excel at obedience classes and agility courses. The Cairnoodle can live to be as old as 18 years of age.

6. Cairnauzer (Cairn Terrier x Miniature Schnauzer)

The Cairnauzer is an incredibly cute crossbreed, and they are the offspring of the Miniature Schnauzer and the Cairn Terrier. 8. Caichon (Cairn Terrier x Bichon Frise)

A Caichon is a hybrid dog with Bichon Frise and Cairn Terrier parents. Often as white as snow, the Caichon must be regularly brushed to prevent their thick coat from tangling or matting. While somewhat of a challenge to housetrain, the Caichon is otherwise a quick learner.

9. Jacairn (Cairn Terrier x Jack Russell)

The high-strung Jacairn is a Jack Russell and Cairn Terrier mix. This hybrid dog is best suited for active families that can provide plenty of physical and mental stimulation. If bored, the Jacairn can resort to destructive behaviors, such as chewing and constant yapping.

10. Carillon (Cairn Terrier x Papillon)

The Carillon is a mix between a Cairn Terrier and a Papillon. Rarely weighing more than 10 pounds, this small, butterfly-eared dog is active, agile, and incredibly athletic. Despite their small size, the Carillon excels on the agility course and can even put larger canines to shame.

11. Cairmal (Cairn Terrier x Maltese)

The Cairmal is a cross between the Cairn Terrier and the Maltese. They’re lovable and calm and enjoy curling up in their owner’s lap. The Cairmal needs moderate amounts of exercise and is an ideal pet for apartment dwellers.
